Cool Borla finally installed!

Finally got the Borla split rear installed. The nice guys at the local Midas shop did the deed for me at $75. Those of you on the edge between Gibson/Borla/Flowmaster choices should decide what you want the exhaust to do for you.
Just installed off the lift, my Borla was not much louder than stock. Very disappointing. However, it apparently takes several miles before the chip catches up to the new parameters, because with 120 new miles on the truck since installation, it doesn't sound like the same system.
I've got a excellently mellow, authoritative rumble that is neither loud or obnoxious. At speed, I can actually hear the pulses, and I can report with great pleasure that my baby has a wonderful heartbeat. There is no drone in the cab (but, then again, the rear wall of my cab is dynamatted, and my doors are sprayed with acoustic dampener).
Off the rack, I could not tell any difference in power whatsoever. If my butt was blindfolded (so to speak) it couldnt detect any diff between stock and Borla'd running.
But after that initial 120 miles, I can report most assuredly that a few additional ponies are alive and well under the hood. I notice the diff most at speed, or when I tromp the pedal to pass. The Borla barks; I'm around and passed, and the truck wants to keep pulling. BTW, I haven't felt ANY loss of low end torque.

Installation was a breeze for the Midas guys. After removing the stock pipe, it didn't take more than 15 minutes for them to get the Borla system hung. One even complemented Borla for having all the pieces and parts to do the job. There are two hangars provided that hold up the rear pipes that fit on the frame next to the spare tire. The system had been so carefully designed that each hanger fit exactly over a convenient screw hole in exactly the right place on the frame. No drilling or wrenching around to get it right.

My advice to those still looking: If you want loud noise, go with a Flowmaster or Ravin. If you want power and rumble, go with Borla or Gibson.

Peace to all my brothers and sisters!

Hey Sundog, thanks for the update, I've been waiting on it. Sunday morning was a tad bit slow here, so I dug around in the archives for exhaust info. More than once I found references to the poor fit of the Gibson, specifically the one I am interested in, the Dual Sport. One member who had an exhaust shop do the install said it was all they could do to position it so that it did not rub the rear shock.
It sounds as if Borla is well worth the extra money, especially for us "Do It Yourselfers" out here. I am most impressed with your references to the quality of engineering in this product. Also, no loss of low end torque is a huge plus. They are still on sale at Truckperformance.com, did you purchase yours there? I'm currently looking at the CGS Motorsports muffler, the Ravin Z55 and now the Borla system is thrown into the mix.

Yup. TruckPerformance. I was hesitant to buy there, as previous posts said they weren't too good on customer service, and were too slow. I guess things have improved, tho'. Mine was backordered a couple weeks at Borla. TPC drop-ships directly from the manufacturer anyway. I paid $413 (No shipping...They were running a No-Ship-Fee special).
The computer chip seems to have "caught up" with the increased air flow now. The system is a bit louder than when it was first installed. Still, if you're looking for a killer sound, you're better off with Flowmaster or Ravin (I guess....I've not heard a Ravin). Borla is not obnoxious at all. I do love the idle......Sits there and puts out this low/mellow warbling throb. And it's beefy sound is best on acceleration...slow or otherwise, particularly in the 'Crew's normal powerband.
Good luck with yours!

Thanks Sundog, I took your lead and ordered the Borla system from Truck Performance today. This was the last day of the sale and I couldn't pass up $393 including shipping. Of course they are on backorder, but at that price for Borla quality, I can wait.
