I just put on a K&N Exhaust yesterday and am very happy with it. The performance is definitely there. I noticed it right away without resetting the computer. It has a nice rumble to it. Not very loud at idle but wakes up when you step on the gas. It has a little drone at the 2000 rpm range but not enough to be annoying and nothing the stereo doesn't drown out. It wasn't cheap ($400 on sale), but it is stainless steel and is of good quality. The mechanics were impressed with it when the put it on. To me it has the right tone. Not to loud and not to soft. I is a single 3" exhaust that runs the same route as the stock exhaust. Just my .02 to give you another idea.

Has anyone installed this exhaust system on a stock 5.4? I'm wondering how it compares to Gibson Side Swept. Is there any loss of low rpm torque or throttle response?

I can't find any place online that sells the K&N exhaust. I've got a '01 5.4 4x4, and have been looking for several weeks. Where did you get yours?

Thanks

Question

Hey Stylin Super Crew!
I have been considering the Gibson sweptside for a long time, but sort of resent the fact that I have to buy the whole system when I know that mandrel pipes will make no difference on my 302. I am NOT the least bit interested in sound, only Improved torque first and hp second. Did you lose any torque?, gain any? What about horsepower, where did it come (rpm)? I know that the answers to these questions depend an many factors. Please give me any insight you can on how these mufflers would fit my needs, 1) torque 2) HP, (not sound). Thanks so much -- Martin

Stylin, I could not agree more.

MWKellner, I put a CGS Motorspots muffler SI/DO on my 93 F-150 with 302 about a month ago. I can't tell that I lost any low end and the upper RPM's seem to pull better. You won't set off any alarms but the sound is nice. I got several email replies form Casey ,owner of CGS, before I made my decision to buy. I deffintely would do it again.

Cool

I'm saying it because no one has yet. Flows sound great. The Gibson is supposed to kill torque. The others i don't know about. I would say some 40's series would give you a very mean sound. If your not all for that loudness, me and Lok N Load will tell you our 50's have great sound but no loudness unless you step on it. They also seem to help torque as well as Hp. There is definitely no loss.

OneBadCrewX4,
Where did you hear "The Gibson is supposed to kill torque."? They are supposedly one of the better ones since they tune for the 2000-4000rpm range. They do say single is better than dual though that is probably true regardless of brand.

MWKellner,
Gibson sells just mufflers so you don't have to buy a cat-back if you don't want to. Check there website http://www.gibsonperformance.com/

Question

ws6bird,
What do you mean by "without resetting the computer?" Does something special have to be done to the computer if an aftermarket exhaust is installed?
