Question Any advice?

I am planning on having true duals installed on my pickup this weekend. It is a '99 with a 5.4. I am planning on having the factory Y pipe fixed, new piece put in where it bends and restricts. Anything else I should consider? Also would like any pictures of true duals to see how it all looks. And if anyone has a Wav file I would like to hear it.
Also should i go straight out the back or angle out behind rear tire? There will be stainless steel tips installed. Not sure of the style yet.

Also what size is the factory Y pipe? Is it 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"? Thanks for your replies. Should I go with 2 1/4" tubing, this will be straight pipes.

I plan on doing the same with my 97 F150 4.6L probably next week along with my new tires and maybe wheels. My opinion/idea was to go straight out the back with 2 1/2 inch pipe and 3 inch or larger chrome tips. In my opinion it just looks better.
I have had a custom dual exhuast system priced by a local shop for $320 which includes the tips and Flowmaster muffs. What I forgot to ask is what size and type of pipe that was. I would like to have stainless stee or aluminized pipe ( i know for $320 it's not stainless, wish it was.
Not sure what type of muffler to get. Could someone out there reccommend a good muffler that has that deep throaty sound yet still not too loud? Like Fordman302 said " If you have a .wav file I would like to hear it."

KY,
I have heard a few Dynomax Race Magnums. The 2.5" bullets are really awesome sounding, get the 16.5" ones if you decide to go this way.

I was quoted 200 dollars for aluminized pipes, and my choice of stainless/chrome tips. This is with no mufflers though.

If it is too loud for me, which I doubt it will be, I will add those Dynomax Race Magnums or Thrush Glasspacks, the shorter the better.

to all,

good luck finding a 'stock' stainless y-pipe.

i just tried like hell and could not find one. i ended up speaking to a shop that does custom work. they were in pennsylvania, and i did have them make me a custom stainless y pipe but the price was over double what magnaflow offered in an aluminumized steel one.

had meinike put it in for me using stainless piping as well. they were the only local shop i found that used stainless piping.

its only been in a couple of days, but i am very happy with it.

i dont know about the 5.4, but the 4.6 y narrowed down to i think 2 1/4 inches where the left side went into the y off of the manifold.

now both are 2.5 going in with a 3 coming out. i dont have dyno numbers to back anything up, but with a load in the back i was able to cruise up a big hill in 4th gear where it used to bog down with the same load.

if anyone is interested, the phone number for the shop is 877-672-2347.

good luck, and if i can be of any help, i will try.

Why use an X or H pipe? I don't believe I will lose any low end torque, since it already has 4 cats, so shouldn't that make enough backpressure to make it run effectively? I have the money to run Flowmasters but I would go with something more aggresive than a 40 series yet. I would like to hear a 40 series though, so if anyone has any wav files let me know. Thanks
