Post FM 40 to ??

Well the kids and wife say the FM40 has to go to something a little quiter. We use the trucks for the trip to VA every weeknd to other house and the drone(1800 rpm) is getting annoying to them(I like it ) Since I don`t want to re-do the whole system again I`m looking for just the muffler replacemnt.

Whats the general opinion on a quiter one, without getting stock quite? I figure my choices would be one of the following:

FM 50 or FM 50 Delta or maybe evn a Delta 40
Ravin Z-55 or Z-77

I just need a little quiter inside at the 1800 rpm range but still want that throatier sound outside. Anyone have experience using the different brands and know my best route. Don`t plan on getting rid of the wife and kids soon or replacing the muffler again

I have the flowmaster 70 series on my truck. This thing is REALLY quiet. At idle, it is no louder than stock unless you are right behind it, and it has a VERY mellow sound in low rpm's. I believe that it is the equivelant (sp?) to the Ravin Z-77. If I were you, I would take a look at the Delta series from flowmaster. They are supposed to have the rumble outside, but with close to no interior resonance.

Question

Hunter4X4,.
Thanks for the info on your post. I didn`t get to look at that one at the shop but only the 50 series.

OK guys here is where it stands so far.
Talked to the guy who put the 40 on and he said he will put a 50 delta on but going to 3" in and 2.5" out with duals and tips exiting the rear for 279.00. Its a step up from the si/so on there now. Is a 3" inlet, 2.5" outlet the one I want? Seem to remember awhile back that the larger inlet was a no-no for back pressure reasons. He also stated that going out the rear would help quite it down instead of the side exit now. I may have to put a cap on it and haul the dogs so this rear exit bothers me for carbon monoxide issues.

The other would be the same set-up in Ravin Z-55 but a higher cost.

I need some help on this guys before I lay down 300.00.

Thumbs down

I have the setup you're thinking about buying. DONT. I have had a drone carpooling with me to and from work ever since. The 50 series is the 40's drone without the aggressive sound. I'd go with Hunters advice.

Sounds like the FM 40 Delta would be your best bet. Just have him do a direct swap, and keep single side exit. I don't understand the drone issue with the FM 40's...I never had a "problem" with it...in fact, check my sig...
