Does anybody have and sound of a v-6 with duals?
A friend of mine had a 99 4X4 w/4.2L and flowmasters it sounded ok at idle but when he hit the gas it sounded like a pissed off bumble bee. just my 2 cents.

Don't blame me for the fact that you bought a full-size 6-cylinder truck, and don't think that a few mods will make it something it isn't.

Hey ****head!
I am 16, and this is my first truck. Im paying for it all by myself, and i couldnt afford one with a V-8. So you can take your opinion, your 01 F-150(with the big ole 4.6 or 5.4),and your faggety *** smilely face, put it in your 93 mustang, and shove up your ****ing ***.
P.S
If you want a real truck why dont you go buy a superduty with a real V-8,like the 7.3liter powerstroke.

listen guys this board isn't to **** people off. it is for us to help eachother out. that is deffinately what it has done for me and i hope that i can help out everyone else out if they ask for it. you guys sound hillarious. well i can relate to where redford is coming from because i am 17 fixin to be 18 in about 5 months and i am paying for my truck all by myself and it is my first truck. so i see what he is saying. hey black f-150 you gotta admit, for our first trucks they are pretty damn nice. just think about your first vehicle, you probablly would have gotten pissed if someone was downin it. but listen up redford i got a v-6 too (awsome engine for a v-6) and we will never get the v-8 sound out of it. we can get pretty close though. from everything i have been reading i am probablly going to go with, #1 gibson super truck or #2 flowmaster 40. hope this helps...

You're 16, wow, never would have guessed that from your first response
One thing you'll have to learn about communicating on the internet is that you hear what someone says, but not *how* they say it, so you don't know if it was meant a certain way or not. My original response to you simply expressed an opinion, which is that you simply cannot give a V6 a good performance sound, at least nothing comparable to a V8. I made a point of saying "thats assuming you're talking with a free-flowing muffler also", not just duals for looks. The louder you make them the sh*ttier they sound. This is your first vehicle, thats fine, you won't hear me criticize anyone for buying within their means. However, to buy a cheaper vehicle *what you can afford* and then turn around and spend a bunch of money trying to modify it into something it isn't is a waste, might as well have saved up and bought something else to start with. If you just want to mod it a little for looks or whatever, no problem, just consider what you'll invest and what you'll end up with.
BTW, my truck is a 4.6, I purposely sought out the smaller motor to get better mileage. When I want to go fast I do it in something that actually has potential, not a small-motored 4500lb truck (yours or mine....). You won't see me filling up my sig. with $200 mods to my truck that may eventually lead to a 20hp gain....

Im only 16 and i wish i could have a new or new to me truck with the 4.2. I am driving a pos 1982 300 i6 but i am paying for it. I want it to sound good but u cant get the v-8 out of it i know but it doesnt have to sound like that to sound good.
REDFORD, chill the hell out...you're making other 16 y/o's look bad. Theirs nothing wrong with the 4.2L, but the 4.6L isn't that much more...it amounts to what...$5 a month more? Anyway, I had the 4.2L with a FM 40 SI/DO to 3 1/2" x 18" tips...sounded awesome...no noise, or pissed off bumble bee...that's ridiculious. Remember, the larger and longer the tips...the better the sound. Now, chill the hell out...as I recall, you DID in fact ask for his opinion, as well as everyone else's. I guarentee you wouldn't talk like that to '01blackF150 in person...nor should '01blkF150 say the things he said about the 4.2 and it's exhaust options. Just my $.002

The bottom line to all this is 1) A V6 will not sound like a V8. 2)This does not mean that you can't get a great sound out of a V6. I had a '99 Camaro V6 w/ FM 40 and except for a rattle (typical FM) at high rev it had a very nice rumble to it. I now have '01 F150 SC w/ 4.2L V6 and will put custom pipes on it. Probably SI/SO with a large crome tip for resonance. It dosen't bother me if people know it's a 6. I like and since I pay the bill that's all that counts.
I've already beat a 4.6 and my V6 sounds mean and nice!
no regrets here, modding the V6 is an excellent idea and not a waste by any means!
We have plenty of V6 owners here on F150online that are very very happy with this motor
including me
p.s.(don't forget, the 4.6 is only rated 15-20 hp more than our V6 4.2 @ 205)

I traded my 5.4 litre V8 in for a 4.2 Litre V6.Much better truck better power and better gas mileage.Had custom exaust on the V8 Just put custom exhaust on my V6.The V6 sounds much better nice rumble sounds great.Every one that hears it thinks it is a V8.I have Beat several ford and dodge V8s
i drive an 03 xl sport 4.2l v6 too and it has plenty of power for anything ill ever need it for and i am Very satisfied with it, i get perfect gas mileage and it rides very smooth like a car too! I wish the acceleration speed was a little bit faster but im not really complaining... anyway.. i love my 4.2l v6 regular cab truck and i hope everyone else does too because theres nothin wrong with it being a v6.
