Post I want it LOUD :)

Posting for a friend

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
Alright, here is the situation. My friend has a 1999 Ford F150 pickup truck with the 4.6 ltr. engine. He basically has no modifications done to it except the usual Flowmaster and dual exhaust tips coming from the back. I Forget the FM series number but it is pretty loud and throaty and it does sound good. Like all of us though, he has grown tired of it and wants it LOUDER.

I know nothing about Ford's setup and I haven't looked under his truck. I don't even know if he has a Y-pipe or true dual from the factory. The question here is what are some of his options to make his truck louder? What setup will sound the best? We have no emmissions here so can he remove the cats? Or get a new y-pipe w/o the cats? Are headers available for his truck? You get the picture here. I have no idea where to begin , but I want to help him out. The cheaper the better as long as it sounds good!
</font>
EDIT: They are 80 series mufflers.

Thanks in advance

Ryan

Straight pipes if you want it louder than that. I haven't heard of the 80 series FM but if it is louder than their 40 series, than another FM will not be louder. If you need a muffler, consider some glasspacks. There are some people on these boards that run glasspacks. Good luck!

Thumbs up

I cut the pipes off after the flowmaster, and it is MUCH louder.

I had the same problem...cut everything out after the "Y", and weld on a 3" pipe about 12" after the cab, and turn it down. Sounds bad-@SS!!!

Hey silver y2k,
Got sort of the same setup. i got, well as you can see from my sig, a mean-streak. And have the pipes dumped after the muffler. Sounds nice

You could get rid of the cats or put headers on it. There are a few headder kits available for these trucks at truckperformance.com . If you just want regular steel headers I think that they have a kit for about $180 (a pacesetter TFX kit or something like that).

Question

I've always been told that on these trucks if you remove the cat's, you'll loose a great deal of your bottom end. But aren't the FLowmaster 40 series louder that the 80 series?? If not the 40's, how about the 30 series?

Happy with my exhaust
