What size FM do i get?
hey
Ive got a 99 f-150 with a 4.2 V-6 and I want to put a flowmaster series 40 on it. I want single in dual out, but i want to know what size diameter i need to get on the in side. The reason I ask is because where i want to buy it from if you buy it you cant return it. So i dont want to get the wrong size and get stuck with it.
thanks

Hey Redford,
keep your inlet pipe into the muffler the same as stock, and the dual outlets should be one size smaller, at least. The dual pipes may be a little small looking but that's okay - just get some nice looking tips welded on and you are good to go.
I'm no expert on the 4.2, but I bet dual 2" pipes would be okay. You may lose a bit of low end power or you may not - it depends a lot on your particular truck and the mods it has.
The Flowmaster 40 Delta Flow is a good choice - you won't have that big block rumble no matter what you do to the 4.2 but it will sound much better than stock. Once you get the system just the way you want it, get all the joints welded and you won't have any squeaks or leaks. Good luck.
