FLOWMASTER OR GIBSON
I'm deciding wether i want to get a flowmaster 70 series with dual outlets or gibson split rear. Ive heard the gibson is louder but im not looking for LOUD LOUD, but just nice quiet sound that u can tell isnt stock. Let me know any suggestions.
The FM 70 series is in a different category than the Gibson Split Rear. The 70 series isn't too loud while the Gibson is more growling.
Gibson's are highly recommended for the F150's and I am very happy with mine.

I heard that there is some drone in the cab of the truck for the gibson split rear. If ya don't want loud, I would consider the FM 70 like JMTruck says. Don't worry about the muffler being not restrictive enough, just keep the pipe size down. If you are going with single in dual out(1 muffler), then depending on your engine, I'd go with 3" for a v8, and 2.5" for the v6. If you go true duals I would go with 2.25" for v8, and wouldn't recommend it for the v6. Good luck with whatever you decide

I installed a FM 70 on my 97 f150 and the sound and performance are great. I went with a 1 in and 2 out muffler(exit in front of RR tire), kept the stock tubing size. All this to keep costs down. Also, don't believe you gain much going with bigger tubing and/or dual exhaust.
I just installed CGS Motorsports' single 3"inlet, dual 2 1/2" outlets on my 5.4L. This is the only muffler that I am aware of that is designed for low-end torque and power. Flowmaster, Magna Flow, Gibson, etc. are designed for performance at high RPM's. That's why you hear a lot of people complaining about loss of power and torque with these mufflers. How many of us actually run our trucks in the 5K to 6K RPM range? CGS Motorsports' muffler has a great deep sound without any drone in the cab. It also has a lifetime guarantee unlike Flowmaster and Gibson. Check out their website or give them a call, "www.cgsmotorsports.com"
I would respectfully disagree with Stylin'SuperCrew, at least on Gibson. It depends on what system you get which of course depends on what you want. The Swept Side is designed specificly for hauling and towing, improving low end torque. If you want loud, it's not for you. There are about 3-4 other systems that do get louder and do sacrifice low end for the sound. Go to http://www.gibsonperformance.com
The CGS may come closer to giving you more aggresive sound without low end torque loss I'm not sure. But don't rule out Gibson. After all, they started out only making systems for RV's!!

It may be a bit too loud for what it seems you are wanting, so I would recommend this: ONE Flowmaster 40 or 50 series DELTA FLOW, with the single in dual out(if you want dual outs). I tried one 50 series and one 40 series DELTA FLOW, and the 50 was way quiet and the 40 just wasn't quite loud enough FOR ME.
I think you would like the 50 series DELTA FLOW--not too loud, a bit quiet(to me), but loud enough for people to know that it ain't stock under there(I've never heard the 70 series, but it is supposedly quieter than the 50, and I have read posts here that people did not want too loud, but wanted some sound, so they went with the 50 series and they seem more than pleased with it). Either way you go, to decrease interior drone, have the muffler shop "mount" the muffler under the bed area--not where the factory muffler is which is under the cab(at least on the supercab). Just make sure they mount it under the bed area.

I have to disagree with you on the suggestion of power/torque loss with the Flowmasters(can't speak for the rest-never had 'em). I had mine true dualed(check signature) and it seemed to me like my bottom end power gained a little. Granted I didn't notice a change anywhere else in the rpm range(above about 1700-2000rpm's), but I did notice a little "low rpm range" (below 2000) power increase.
Did SEEM to pull my 20' Bayliner a little better at speeds of 55-60(overdrive off of course), but it may have just been my imagination,LOL.

I've had a 97 4wd 4.6 w/gibson single exit
now I have a 99 4wd ORP Lariat SC wFlowmaster
K&N,Superchip, The guy who put on my cat-back system says it's a waste of money to put
on the dual set-up because of the oxygen sensr. My exhuast sounds bad at speeds up to
60 mph and quiet at hiway speeds.I have put
my truck on a dyno and I'm getting 300+ HP
I put on a nice custom tip and it looks sharp. So why go with something that does'nt look stock?
