Question "Test pipe"?

What the heck is a "test pipe"? The guys on probetalk.com said you can go to a muffler shop, and they'll make you a "test pipe" in place of the CATS. Anyone know more on this?

basically it is just a pipe that takes the place of your cat. It is only leagal during certain racing events. A definite NO NO to drive around daily with one of these unless you like to take a lot of chances. But then again I guess you would only get caught during an inspection. Also some vehicles have problem running a test pipe because of the O2 sensor.

the test pipe replaces a suspected bad converter as a diagnostic aid. i believe they were used more commonly with early converters before OBD and of course for racing or off road use.
