Gibson Exhaust Question
I have decided on the Gibson exhaust for my
'97 Expy. I was about to order the split
rear system and I read that Gibson doesn't
recommend this set-up for SUVs due to
possibility of CO poisioning. Anybody have
an opinion of this? Is Gibson just
covering their butt? I love the look of the
dual rear exits but I have a small child.

Sound like they are just covering their butts. With the back window down (or up in a truck cap) it would be possible for some of the exhaust to swirl up into the vehicle. I don't see how it would be much more than with a side exit though. Just my .02.

Gibson is probably covering their butt, but at the same time, there is probably a reason for this. Usually for there to be a recommendation or a disclaimer, this means that it has occured in the past. In any vehicle, especially a "boxy" SUV or pickup, the 5 sq ft. area behind it while in motion, is a highpressure, turbulence swirling mass of air. With the hatch and/or window open, the fumes would most likely find their way into the cab/cargo area. This is another reason why in SUVs, van, and trucks, most manufacturers have rear-side-exit exhaust. Fumes narrowly "miss" this high-pressure area when exiting.
Just an opinion, from one dad to another.
