Question Question?

Here in Jefferson County in KY we have had a Vehicle Emissions Test required on all vehicles. All it was is a way to rip people off by having to pay someone to put a probe up your tailpipe and tell you if you are running rich or not. Even brand new vehicles had to go thru this even tho at the factory they perform the same tests to meet state regulations. Makes sense huh? Well that's KY for you.

But in November of this year, the VET is being shut down. Finally got a congressman to help us get rid of it.

Now my question is, and please don't think I'm stupid for asking this, but when this happens in November, can I take my Catalytics off? Or is it illegal in all states to remove or alter CC's?

I'm seriously thinking of doing this.

Anybody got any input on this?

I wouldn't recommend that you do that... I'm pretty sure there are sensors before and after your cats and doing anything to them would throw off your computer-- make yer truck run crappy. Just get some good quality high flows.

Can you or should you ?

The can is yes you can, but depending on the year, you might need to make some additions to the system,

The late model years have 2 sets of cats and 2 sets of O2 sensors.

If you remove the second set of cats you can get MIL eliminators to stop from getting a CEL from missing the second set of cats from the second bank of O2 sensors.

On the older model years I don'y know for sure if this is the case.

If you really want to do something, you can put on high flow cats and an X pipe and the muffler(s) of choice after that or look at Beastie's gallery, he re did his system on an older truck with high flows and true duals, as an example.

It is not as easy and cheap as cutting out the cat, welding in a piece of pipe and being on your way.

After the 10th call Mike T and ask him, he can give you the
straight story on what can and cannot be done and why.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on.
