Question 4.6 (97), Headers?, FMstr or?...

I've read almost *every* post regarding the
use of F/M and headers... we DO HAVE a great
'board' here!!!

Okay, slowly building the 4.6L Auto 97 F150.
Will install AirAid this week. Then will
monitor milage, install the Superchip... but?

I used to four wheel all the time in a
CJ5 6 that was breathed on... the biggest
improvement was a Header system.

So I am looking at the headers discussed here. Have not seen a great deal of talk about them? Are they NOT (of course, no
as easy as mufflers..) the WAY to go as part
of a slow build up on the F150s??

Looking at the JBA headers here at our store,
but know therer are OTHERS?

Want little 'noise' increase and will stay
with a single exhause (move to behind wheel,
97's were in front)...

So, suggestions for Cat/back and headers
for 4.6L Auto F150... not interested in
sound, just power (sound will come if I
build it...)

Should I go with the headers 'before' the
SuperChip (I mean, does it effect the
setup on the superchip, MIKE??)

Hey, VELASIO (SP-Arcadia, CA..) we live close
who did your truck...? Good shop?? I have
a great Ford Mechanic over there by you.

Doc, To answer a few of your questions:

The header install was not bad, took 4-5 hours. Only snag was the egr connection. The angle of the new header egr connection was not perfet and had a little trouble.

Yes there are other headers out there, I have Dynomax ceramic coated. JBA is also a very good quality header. I bought the Dynomax for cost reasons, about 200 cheaper.

I spoke with Mike T. about the SUPERCHIP and mods. He told me that you can gain around 5 hp from a custom program when you use headers and an intake kit. This comes at a cost of 125. That would be up to you whether or not 5hp=125. (Personally I got the power pullys).

Personally I was surprised with the results. I thought I would get a sound increase and little to no seat of the pants improvement. Wrong, NO sound improvement, but a pretty good seat of the pants increase. You'll find no complaints here. BTW I have a Borla cat-back and still didn't get any sound increase, I would say the 4 cats and the Y pipe has a lot to do with the sound of our trucks.

Unless you opt for the custom programming then there is no difference in the chip.
