Flowmaster or local shop

I can not believe how many different options there are, in choosing an exhaust. I've considered Flowmaster 50 SUV Series (told this sounded good), but they don't offer a dual out the rear cat-back system for the 2000 model. I'll have to have a local shop run the pipes for me. Everywhere I've gone, they suggested using other types of mufflers (super turbos, Dynomax, Midas, etc.) instead.
I mainly want the duals for sound and looks.
Any suggestions on what to do? I've heard 2 trucks that sounded pretty good. One was done by Midas and the other had Dynomax Quiet Flow mufflers.
Please help.

Here is my 2 cents worth, They must make a dual out the back system, I just put one on my truck a 96 F-150 with a 5.0, I went with the American Thunder series, almost 3" all the way back, can tell that the top end is a little better, not sure about the low end, however am very disapointed in the sound, this system replaced a 18" dual out glasspack, and it is not near as loud. Well good luck

Well, thanks for all the advice, but I've decided to go with a 50 Series SUV model. 3" inlet with dual 2 1/2" outlets. I heard this same system on a new Expedition and it sounded awesome. Just what I was looking for. Not to loud, but enough to make people look as I pass by.
I ordered the muffler on Monday, so I should be recieiving it today, then it's off to the local muffler shop for installation. I'll let you all know what I think once it is complete.

I just installed the Flowmaster Delta-50 on my 1999 Supercab 4.6L. Two things have happened that I'd like to fix, but seem to be conflicting goals. First, the sound of it is not what I expected (not enough rumble). Second, I'm getting an interior "drone" at 1800-1900 rpm which happens to be right at 65.
After reading your notes on this, I went out and looked under my truck and saw that the muffler looks like it's already installed behind the cab not under it (right at the seperation). It doesn't appear it can go much further back.
Any suggestions for me? The guy at RPM outlet suggested that I use a Dynomax "Bullet" resonator to get rid of the drone.

Keep in mind that all the 4.6L's tend to drone around that RPM level. Mine is a 98 and it drones at 1700rpm. With the Flowmaster 50 Deltaflow it's at least liveable.

Thanks for the input! Since I posted my first note, I decided (although I may be stupid for doing it) to go ahead and install the resonator and move to a 40-Series Delta-Flow. I'm hoping to get more good noise out and get rid of the bad noise. I'll let you know. I'll do the experiment and let you know how it turns out -- Maybe I can help all of us 4.6L owners get rid of the drone!

I haven't installed a delta-40 yet. I'm still going 'round and 'round on what to do. My delta-50 has definately gotten louder in the last two weeks (since installing it) and I'm not sure that I'm going to go ahead with the 40. My only problem is that I'm not sure what I hear more of, the interior resosonance or the exterior out-the-pipe sound.
I have nearly come to the conclusion that I'm more interested in a sound absorbtion design (a la Dynomax) since the sound they make is deep but mellow and don't have as much as of the interoir resonance. At least that's what I've been able to gather by talking with several shops and the several manufacturers. I've been in contact with a guy in Houston I found over the web who highly recommends the Bassani system. I'm investigating that one. I had one of their pipes on my 4-stoke dirt bike back in the 70s and loved it. Don't know how it will translate to my F150, but if I go that way, I'll let you know. It's a stainless, mandrel bent system (cat back).

Well, it's finally done! I had a local shop install the Flowmaster 50 Series SUV and run the 2 1/2" duals out the back. The sound is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not to loud and annoying to myself and others, but a nice deep rumble. Sounds good at idle and it really opens up when you get on it. I did notice 2 things, that I've been reading about:
1. Little loss of torque
2. Drone between 1500-1800 RPM
The sound is perfect at 65 mph!
Any suggestions on how to get the torque back I lost. It's not that noticable, by I know it's there. Keep in mind, I only have 2,700 miles on my truck. It's still brand new.
