Question Which flowmaster? Delta 40 or 50??? HELP!

I am getting a new Flowmaster for my 2000 F-150. I have a 5.4L V8. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with the Delta-40 Series or the 50 Series. My buddies have the 50 (3 chamber) on their 95 Chevy V8's and I like them a lot. How does the Delta 40 compare to that sound? Would a 3-chamber on my truck sound different than on theirs? I want just the right sound. Not too soft, but not that RedNeck-look-at-me-all-day loud that wears on you after a while. Don't want to go straight 40 Series.

Also, I'm going to go single in/single out. What is the current diameter of the pipes up front on the 2000? I don't see the point in going from a 2 1/2 pre-cat (if that is the case) to a 3 inch after. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Cool

jakeparker23,
i had a 50 series(delta tech) and switched to Jardine. I have had Gibson, flowmasters AND NOW jARDINE, let me tell you that the sound and performance i got from Jardine have been excellent.I wish i would have known about Jardine when i first got the truck so i would have not wasted money and time on the other two systems. i only got the muffler for $91.00 delivered and left the rest of the system stock.

I have the delta-50 on my 4.6L. It's too quiet (out of the pipe) for my taste. I'm going to the delta-40. The local muffler guy that was recommended to me says that "Fords are a lot harder to get sound out of than a Chevy or Dodge." Based on that, I'd say that in comparison to your buddy's Chevy, yours will be quieter with the same muffler. If it's a choice between the delta-40 and the regular (non-delta) 50, the flowmaster info shows that the delta-40 will be quieter in the cab than the 50 and will produce a bit more noise outside. Might be the right comprimise for you.

...or.... (here comes another opinion)

I've got the 50-series Deltaflow. Stock 2.5" pipe from the 'Y' to the muffler, 3" pipe from there to a 3.5" tip in the stock exit location. I know you said you didn't see the point in going from a 2.5" to a 3" after but it changes the volume and tone of the exhaust. I've listened to 40-series as well as Gibson Sport Truck and Dynomax systems. I really do believe the 3" tailpipe makes my exhaust as loud as a 40-series, but with a much lower tone. And I don't get the noise in the cab - just out the tailpipe.

Thumbs up

Hi ...

I just installed a delta 40 - 3" in 2-21/2" out. I had the muffler shop run the pair out the side behind the rear passinger wheel.
I bought stainless steel slant tips and angled the exit back slightly. I fretted and fretted about this design. I am so picky I drive myself crazy. I didn't want the exit out each side .. and I didn't want in front of the tire .. or duels out the back ..
I have to tell you .. I am VERY happy with what I ended up with.
The sound is louder then I expected, but it is a great low throaty sound. Sorta like my 65 Mustang in the 70's when I had "dumps" (remember those?) haha
Make sure they mount the muffler as close tp the axel bends as possible. The 40 is only about half the length of the stock muffler .. so it is no problem getting it mounted under the bed and not under the cab.
The reason I went with the 40, was reading all about it here .. and also because the muffler guy said it was the correct muffler for a F-150 5.4 due to their numerous cat converters.
Well I hope this helps .. I will take a picture and post it if you want to see.
It just might be me .. but I really think the duels out the stock side .. looks GREAT.
I can't figure out why it is not offered by the major muffler makers.
Damn .. I have babbled huh .. sorry
