Exhaust relocation and power loss
I had the exhaust relocation done on my 1997 4.2 f150 and the power loss was Huge! Has anyone else had this problem? before I had no problem with power, now it will not get out of its own way! I can't believe that the extra pipe could reduce the power that much! I expected a little loss,but a huge loss. Anyone else have this problem?
Where was your exhaust originally, and where did you relocate it to?

Currently:
1999 Black F150, 4.6L 5spd manual, reg. cab, long bed, 3.55, 60/40 split bench cloth seats, black vinyl floor, K&N air filter with partial open box mod., Home Made Cold Air Intake, 10 disc sony cd changer, Wet Okole seat covers, Superchip, 285/60/16 tires, Seat belt cushions, modified the silencer (by removing it, duct-tapped the hole from the outside, and put it back in.)
Future:
4.10 gear, bug deflector, fender flares, hard tonneau cover, roll pan, ProCharger Supercharger, shaved tailgate handle, and custom paint & striping.

97 f-150's came with exhaust out the right side, ahead of the rear wheel. Simple, no pipe up and over axle. I like it that way, will keep mine that way forever. Later, it could be changed to a conventional out the back at owners choice at dealer. Heard this was due to wheel/cap discoloration and pitting due to exhaust gases condensing on right rear wheel. I have had no problem with mine. I agree, the length of pipe added should not have made such a difference. Something else must be wrong. If it started right when the change was made, it sounds like its time to crawl underneath and look around. O2 sensors and wiring plugged in and OK? Give it a good look over, maybe you will find something suspicious.
A piece of nice mandrel-bent pipe should no hurt performance, but the factory crush-bent pipe could make a difference. It's gotta go up and over and around the rear axle. But I wouldn't think it could make that much of a diff. When I modified my exhaust (from stock '98 exit behind the wheel to a turn-down right after the muffler) I noticed an improvement. Maybe partly because I got rid of the crush-bent pipe?
