Question DUAL EXHAUST ?'S

HEY GUYS!!!

I HAVE A F-150 LARIAT 4X4 5.4L V8. I AM PLANNING TO CHANGE MY EXHAUST TO A FLOWMASTER WITH DUAL PIPES RUNNING STRIAGHT OUT THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. (SAW A PICTURE OF THIS SETUP AND I REALLY LIKED THE LOOK), ANYWAYS, ALL I REALLY WANT IS A DIFFERENT LOOK OTHER THAN STOCK. AND IF IT HELP WITH PERFORMANCE THAT WOULDN'T HURT EITHER. I CALL AROUND TOWN AND ASK SOME SHOPS IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THIS FOR ME, FOUND ONE THAT GAVE ME A REALLY GOOD PRICE. MY QUESTION IS WILL THIS BE REALLY LOUD? I JUST WANT A DIFFERENT LOOK AND A BETTER SOUNDING EXHAUST, BUT DON'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE ALL THOSE MODIFIED HONDA'S AROUND TOWN. I REALLY HATE THOSE GUYS!!

Cool

With you running a 5.4L and the rice-burners running little four-bangers I don't think anyone will confuse yours with theirs.

There are several different series Flowmasters to choose from. Some are as quiet as stock and some sound as if there is no muffler at all. Most people install seem to either install the 40-series or the 50-series (the quieter of the two). Muffler casing length and tail pipe diameter will also make a difference in sound (quality and volume).

The shop that gave you the quote ought to be able to help you select exactly what you're looking for.

hit & run, I really wouldn't worry about sounding like a rice-burner. Most of them use import type muffler systems which have very big tips. And don't quote me on this but I believe it's the oversized tips that give it that weedwacker higher pitch exhaust tone which we all laugh at. Because I have seen everything from 4 cylinder up to 8 cylinder (yes whiny sounding v8's) that have that 'import exhaust sound'.
