Question Is it worth it?

I swore when I bought my truck I would never modify the exhaust. But a deal has come up recently that is making think twice about it. But I wanted all of your opinions first.

I have a 99 with the 5.4 that's close to 10 months old. However, recently my dad got a job working at the Ford dealer where I bought my truck. This Ford dealer contracts out a local company to do aftermarket exhaust systems. So through my dad I can get a completely new 3" exhaust from the cats back for about $250. Now here are my questions/concerns. First off, I don't want anything that will void my warrantee through Ford, but I assume his work won't. I also don't want anything that isn't street legal, and again I assume this work would be legal. I don't want a major noise increase; I don't care for loud cars, both mine and others on the road. I also don't want anything that looks aftermarket, so no chrome tips. But those last two are just what I request from the guy. Would this noticeably improve performance and/or gas milage? Also, is this a good price for what he's offering? And lastly, does this type of work make the vehicle less likely to pass smog (in 4 years when I have to worry about that)?

Thanks for the advice and input. I know nothing about this type of work. I do know this guy does top-notch work because I have spoken to many people who've had his work done and they love it.

Hey Freezer:
$250 is a pretty decent price for what you described. Hell, the cat-back kit from flowmaster costs $300, then you gotta do it yourself! I think a fifty series flowmaster (3 chamber) set up would be perfect from what you described. Not too loud at all. Unfortunately, I didn't notice any significant gains in Hp or mileage in my case, but I was really after a sound and a look. I don't expect it to really breathe right till I free up the intake side with a K&N FIPK. As far as warranty & emissions go, you're fine as long as you don't mess with the cats or th O2 sensors. Don't let anyone tell you different. Listen to Nike. Just do it.

Question

It sounds like you don't really need a system. If your happy with what you have why spend the money? Get something your more interested in. I would save the money.
