Exclamation DID I DO THE RIGHT THING?????

I just ordered a 3 chamber flowmaster series 40 for my 4.2L. I am keeping the factory pipe.
I also just added a K&N filter for my truck also.
Is this set up going to work? The guy at the muffler place assured mt that it would not make a whinning sound, but give it a deeper growl to it. (not like a V-8, I know).
How much HP gain should I see from the flowmaster and K&N; plus will I get better MPG?

Thanks,

Fake

Thumbs up

The 40 series flowmaster is a two chamber and is their loudest. If you got a three chamber it is either a 50 or 70 series, 70 series being the quietest. In any case the performance from all is very simular and will be an improvement. I rean an article last year in one of the 4 wheel mags where they did a step by step exhaust change and they picked up 8 hp with just a flowmaster on a 350.

You should actually feel a little difference with the muffler change, probably won't feel as much improvement from the K&N but it will be there. Overall you will probably pick up 5-10 hp. Your stock 2.5 in exhaust is plenty big enough for the 4.2. Most people who go bigger loose some low end torque. You probably won't see much improvement on MPG. Next thing you need is the Superchip.

Johnny is correct. I think the 30 series is also a three chamber and is pretty quiet.

Question

Also, does removing the air intake silencer help with the K&N filter? If so, how do you get the dang thing off?

FAKE FVC

CHECK OUT THE TECH ARTICLES AND THEY WALK YOU RIGHT THROUGH IT IT IS KIND OF DIFFICULT BUT IF YOU ARE CREATIVE YOU CAN DO IT , IAND IF YOU MESS UP YOU COULD STILL GO WITH THE AIR RAID OR THE K&N INDUCTION, I WAS ABLE TO DO IT BUT I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKES SO I PURCHASED THE AIR RAID YESTERDAY BUT HAVENT HAD TIME TO INSTALL IT GOOD LUCK

HEY--- I just had the flowmaster 40 series put on my 4.2-with a wicked 3inch tip. I already had a k&n with no air box.

At idle my f150 has a low quite deep rumble..AND when you floor it ,,it turns to a loud deep rippin rumble..
