Which exhaust system?
I'm sure this question has been asked a few hundred times but I would like the opnion of ya'll. I have a 92 flareside 4x4, E4OD, with a 351. I am going to go one of two ways on the exhaust and would like to know what one you would choose. First is the 40 series cat back system from flowmaster or go with a "true" dual exhaust with a crossover and a set of 40 series flowmasters exiting out the rear. I figure I can get both for around the same price but not sure if the "true" dual exhaust will hurt or help me. Plus I think that damn cat is a big pain in the butt! It goes from, I would say, around 3" inlet to 2.25" outlet!? If anyone has done this, or knows someone who has, please let me know how it sounded and performed.
Thanks Joe
Thanks Joe
I added a series 40 flowmaster with dual outlets on my 99 5.4L. I know that this engine is complete diferent animal compared to yours though. The tech that instlled it for me has installed it on several Sierias, F150's and Rams. The number one complaint after the addition true duals, especially on the newer models, has been the loss of low end torque. If you want to run a blower with headers and high RPM, go for it. If your not going to, consider the single inlet dual outlet flowmaster. It sounds great on the V8.
i have a 97 4.6 lariat 4x4 and my first modification was the exhaust, buddy let me tell you, you will not be disappointed if you go with the 40 series flowmaster muffler one inlet dual oulet exiting in the rear, it sounds awesome and will give some performance, plenty of people have said that they haven't felt an improvement on h.p. but i hit my rev limiter a lot quicker now!!!! the rpm's shoot up quick i think the 40 series flowmaster is the best bang for your buck, i ordered mine from sumitt for $59.95 and the installation will run you about $100 - $150 i got mine for $110 with the chrome tips in the back, i know it is not a "true" dual exhaust but like many people have told me one loses a lot of low end torque and if you like to take off fast torque is the key to doing so
let us know what you decided hope this info helped a little , good luck

Well I have the 40 series on my two wheel drive truck and it does sound awesome! I did see a increase in fuel milage as well as felt more power. I was just wondering if the true duals would be a better bet. Guess I will go with the 40 series flowmasters since the best is the best! Thanks guys!
