Post Those looking for 1997 F150 Exhaust TSB

I had to relocate my exhaust due to discoloration because of a lowsy ford design. I have the TSB that so many were looking for the Article No. 97-26-13. I also will scan this stuff and put it on the web for all to pull down and view.

I think that's ok..... will post when I get it ready

hey silverback: thanks for the info. just looked at my truck today and noticed that my rear wheel looks terrible. it seemed to have weathered well so far but, after this winter it now looks shot. must have something to do with cold weather and the exhaust.
did you notice any loss of power when you had the exhaust switched. i've seen that mentioned before.

I cant say I really have...I thought I lost a little low end when I went to a 3" pipe but it seems to all have balanced out since I rerouted the exhaust back to the rear.....

I had this TSB performed about a month ago. I have seen no loss of power. The new muffler they put on sounds a bit "throatier."
I thought they would run the new pipe straight out the back, but they curve it out behind the right rear wheel.

I have just noticed the discolor of the rear wheel caused by the exhaust as it exits before the wheel. My question is, do they replace the whole exhaust from the catalytic back with new, and exit it after the wheel? And how much of a hassel was it to have the dealer recognize it as a warranty issue?
Thanks

Silverback, what about the center wheel cover, did they replace that or just clean it up? Thanks

JBurd, my service folks did not hesitate to replace the center hub cap and the wheel, along with the exhast system. We checked the other wheels real closely but they were perfect. They were willing to replace all wheels if needed. I took it in with 36,004
miles on the odometer. Had I not read about it on this board the night before, I would have been out of warranty.

jburd-

I never had a problem with my rear wheels until I went to aftermarket. The wheels I purchased did not have a clear coat like the stock ones and I experienced heavy oxidation on them in less than one week. Nothing was damaged as I did not let it go long. I had the exhaust rerouted and all problems/symptoms have gone away.

My Ford guys assured me it was a warranty issue, not a recall. Therefore, technically, they don't have to do it out of warranty. I knew they wouldn't protest that I had 36,004 when I pulled up to the service drive, but I don't know how much more slack they would have cut me.

Cool

The dealer I bought mine off wouldn't warranty my hubcap & exhaust. I was wayyyyy outta warranty, but it still was a problem from day one. I just HATE going back to dealers. That trip was first one to the dealer since I bought the truck, after 120KMS
(about 70,000 miles?)

Although I could have had the pipe change around by the dealer, I had my muffler guy do it. He did a 3" from the cat to a flowmaster 40 series 2 stage, 3" in , 3" out. and relocated the pipe behind the rear wheel. this cost me $200 bucks, well worth it. ths sounds is awsome, the performance is way better, and the truck feels new, it even idels smother now, dont know why. If you want you truck to have more bite, get the flowmaster and reroute the pipe then. its a win win...

just my two cents.
