Post Who Makes the Best Header for the Buck?

I am thinking about installing headers on my truck. Actually, the decision comes down headers or a superchip. I was just wondering about your opinions on the best header for its value. Also, will headers change my exhaust note in any way? Please leave your opinion. Thanks.

Cool

the first thing to consider or to realize is that factory exhaust manifolds flow much better today than they did 30 years ago. I personally doubt if you would gain more than 10 horsepower because of the additional restrictions caused by converters, etc. with a set of headers. If you plan on going to headers in the future, I would purchase them first then the Super chip because it will be important to let Super chips know about the headers because they can increase the fuel mixture to maximize your engine. My personal opinion is for the $300 it will cost for headers you can purchase and install the Super chip and take the remaining money and go out to dinner or save the money in the future and get more bang for your buck. Just one person's thoughts.

Headers will deepen the tone, it will be more noticable with an aftermarket muffler. But it will be deepened some from increased volume through the pipe. General rule of thumb, with out some added intake of some sort, porting, blower, nitrous.. what have you.. you won't get more than 10 - 15 off a set of headers alone. Combined with free flowing cat back, you can gain 30 - 40 at about 3500 rpm on various systems. As for the Superchip, they are great.. use one for a project Aerostar we race here in the brackets, but the previous post was correct in stating that if you are going to get one, do al of your other modifications first, then order one burnt to everything you have. Cheaper and better performance in the long run.
