Post glasspacks/ 5.4 motor

I want to put a glasspack on my 2000 f150 supercab 4X4 5.4 engine, the setup would be a single input with a dual out, with two pipes out the back. I want the "sound". What can I say, I like my Harley too, I gotta rumble!! Is this setup gonna do it for me?

Buddy of mine has a 97 ORP with the 4.6 and he got rid of muffler and ran dual pipes off the the cats all the way to the back. Talk about sound! Too loud for my tastes but maybe just what you are looking for.

Yeah, I did the same thing. I used 2 chamber flowmaster's, ran true duals from the cats back, had to install the mufflers upright instead of flat to make them fit, and put 3 1/2"x 18" tips on it. Sounded great at first, still sounds great by everyone's opinion. But I drive it everywhere, everyday and it's a little on the loud side. It's great when cruising through town or something, but I can't sneek up on somebody anymore.

I had a true dual exhaust system installed on my '97 5.4L. 2-1/2" aluminized pipe mandrel bent, welded into place and high temp aluminized sprayed after installation. The guy installing it cut the "Y" pipe after the last oxy sensors and made it true dual exhaust all the way out the back. He put 36" glass packs on it and chrome tips at the exit. I didn't want it real loud and putting it out the back cut any droning that may occur. I really like it cause the long glass packs kept enough back pressure on the exhaust to not kill the low end torque. It doesn't sound real loud until you get up on RPM's and working it hard. I think you may get some more HP with other ($$) mufflers but torque is what you don't want to sacrifice.

Cool

Cabraco,
I just finished putting a cherry bomb glasspack on my truck, it has a nice mellow and loud rumble, fairly quiet when at a steady speed, she has a nice bark under acceleration. I think I lost a little low end, but the truck seems more rev happy (not constipated any more). I'm running a 2bros. Race exhaust on my CBR the truck doesn't seem to be as loud or as harsh a bark. If you like loud harleys, there might not be enough music for you. For $15 you can buy same at Pep Boys, rent the pipe cutter buy 2 clamps per, and in 2-3 hours you'll know for sure! If you haven't installed an FIPK, you might want to do this as well, nice engine growl under acceleration!

I will most likely catch some steam for this but it needs to be said.I thought or wished glasspacks where dead along with those farm truck tips, man they are annoying, sorry but I live in a imbread red neck little town simular to Hazard County and they will put those things on anything:4 cylinder S-10s and rangers.Do yourself and everyone else a favor and stay away from glass packs and those 4foot long crome icecream cone looking tips, instead bore out your catalithic converter and buy two chamber Flowmasters. You will actually get a performance gain this way.It will be very loud and sound decent instead of sounding extremly loud and annoying, the cops wont be all over you either but you might have problems getting it inspected if they test your emissions but you cant tell its not a working cat by looking.Personally I cant stand flowmasters either, they sound great untill they brake in,but after that they have a farm truck type sound:voom wa pop pop pop,Im a Borla and SLP kind of guy,but you like it loud so I thought Id give you some tastefull advise. If you really want the Harley sound get yourself a loapy camshaft, hollowed out cat,and 2 chamber flows.

F150LowDown,
Nope, Glasspacks are not dead. Actually they are less noisy than the Flowmasters you are referring to. I know I did a comparison with another guy that has a 4.6l. Boring out the Cats is a STUPID idea, vehicles these days are designed to work efficiently with cats. A "loapy" camshaft is also a bad idea, again due to engine design and type of driving being done. F150LowDown, you probably should keep your opinions to yourself when in redneck country (Waco) or Bubba and his friends might show you what the "Texas stomp" is. Just friendly advice. Oh, also find a spell checker - you spell like one of them rednecks.

Red face

Well Ill say what I want, and their are too many idiots in my area which is actually right outside of of Waco.Ill also spell how I want to,I dont have a "spell checker" because most smart people can understand what I am tring to say,as for Bubba and his friends he can bring it on,Yes you are a idiot if you put cherrybombs and those long exhaust tips and those small tires on front and huge mud grips on back of a 4 cylinder truck. No you dont know what you are talking about because I know someone who owns a 95 Z-28 and its cats are bored out and it runs better now than it did before and he also has a Flowmaster muffler and it is not louder than cherry bombs and exhaust tips.Yes you can run a loapy cam shaft,If you have the right mods. While we are being critical: "you spell like one of THEM red necks",how you really say it is: you spell like one of THOSE red necks.I just gave friendly advise,I didnt say every one with glasspacks are red necks I just wanted to let them know how the rest of us fill about them,If any one is a inconsiderate red neck in here, please stop mud ******* your truck or car and go messing up the car washes, the rest of like to wash our vehicles to,Thanks

hey man, i got an 85 f-150 with a 351w ho 4v, it aint got no emissions stuff, and its got true duals with 18 inch glasspacks and 3inch by 12 inch tips out the back, i love it, its sounds bad as hell, especially when i open up the 4 barrel, and it dont got that rotten egg smell to the exhaust like them new trucks, its smells good, i only got 86,000 on this truck and its looks, drives and feels brand new, i get compliments on its looks and sound all the time, if you stand behind it, and get someone to rev it up, it hurts your ears

Question

Cabraco, Hay did you get the glasspacks on your truck? This is the same thing that I can get here for only $150. If so how long of a classpack did you go with? What about tips on this kind of setup? I would like to know how long of a classpack that I should go with and still have some good sound on my 5.4??? (anyone)
