HELP!!! Just had my exhaust done...I have some (?)'s
I have a 99' F-150 XLT Sport 4X4 w/ 5,000 miles. It has the 4.2L V6 and manual trans. I just had a Flowmaster 40 2 chamber 3" in and (2) 2 1/2" outs, with aluminized pipes all the way back to dual 3" tips. The guys at the shop, said that my old system would have lasted me 15 years, the new would only last 2 - 5 years.
- Is this true?
- How does this effect my warrenty?
- Seems to run hotter? Should it?
- Does my computer "learn" the new exhaust?
- If so, how long does it take? (Stupid (?))
- What should I watch for?
- How does it effect my truck overall?
It seems like it wants to rev. at lower RPM's and shifts much smoother. I like the sound of the new Flowmaster, but not at first. I just has this done 1 hour ago. Of course I have a lot of (?)'s.
ANY feed back is much appreciated.

Jackal, Relaaaaaax.....
You haven't hurt your truck, you did a good thing for it. I think that your muffler shop guys are pulling your leg. Your exhaust should last longer than five years, five years is a long time. I highly doubt that the standard Ford exhaust system would last for 15 years, that muffler would rust out before then....

1999 F150 4x4, dark blue, 5.4l auto, Manick brush guard, KC Hilites, tinted windows, K&N air filter without airbox, Gibson side swept exhaust, bedliner, toolbox, Uniden CB with whip, and now, an appointment with Dr Ford for open heart surgery (to replace a Piston Slap'in Engine)...

Jealousy. Plain and simple. They couldn't do it to theirs so they didn't want you to enjoy yours. If I were you I would never go back to them again. I don't care how good a work they do or how cheap they are if they can't get into it don't play with them anymore. If the old one was so good why didn't they offer you some serious bucks for it? Yes, you might want to disconnect your battery for an hour to help it re-learn the intake faster. Enjoy your new muffler.
