Question Best sounding exhaust

After my husband got finished complaining about the money I was spending on the truck (and the metal shavings on the kitchen table-don't ask) and started enjoying all the mods I did, He now wants that "cool sound." I myself would like to hear a "low rumble" on start up with that "ripping sound" on take off, while also enjoying the performance factor of a Catback.
So here goes: Whats "your" favorite Catback and what does it sound like?

------------------
98 F150 SC XLT 4.6 V8 Tow Pkg.CHIP,K&N Airbox mod. "Moonlight Blue" Crome Rails and Taillight covers, Smoked Bug and Rain guards, Painted Visor and Running boards. Oh yeah, and one "Blacked-out" grill. "traffic doesn't get in my way!" LOOK-OUT!

Andthensometoo: you already know I have the flowmaster and that "I think" it's the best sound available. Also because I went with a single pipe out and kept it in front of the rear tire, it wound up being ridiculously cheap!! But I think that short pipe enhanced the sound and improved the added HP!! We are headed to Wyandotte (Detroit) in Sept, I can't remember what part of MI you're in, but if it's not to far, maybe we can meet somewhere???

bed liner, side window deflectors, reese hitch, K&N air filter

Yeah, sept will come before we know it, and Wyondotte is about an hour away. It just might take till sept to "recover" from my latest spending spree and vacations. So if there is a good resterant/bar near there... well lets just say the thing I like to make most for dinner is reservations Ha Ha!

Question

I like the Supertruck set-up and the price is agreeable. My only concern is having my V6 (I know, I know, could of had a V8!!) sound like one of those rice burners! I have nothing against those -burners, but this is a full-size truck and I want it to sound like a 4500lb piece of American Iron should! Any suggestions? Thanks...Doc

Don't think it will sound like that. I am sure it will be a big improvement. It is reversable however if you take the stock exhaust off intact. Tahts what I did. I just went to my local Midas shop and had them heat it and remove it in one piece and threw it into the back of the truck. It is now hanging in my shed. They charged me $40.00 to do this and put the Gibson Super Truck on. Someone out there has this thing on a 4.2. Tell him about it.

I've heard that some people have had trouble fitting the Gibson Super Truck catbacks and that they (in some cases) have rubbed on and damaged the spare tire. I don't know if the "kit" was side or rear, but I'm guessing rear exit for this to happen. I'm still waiting to decide what I want, til then I'll just have to admire Her looks. (how chauvanistic!)

No, its a side discharge in front of the tire. Fits like factory. Does not even come close to the spare and takes advantage of the exact stock hangers. I don't know what problems they had you are reffering too. Unless of course they were damaged in shipment and not sent back. Very possible as Gibson does not package them very well. See my archived post on this under "Truck Performance Center coustmer Service". My advise is to inspect them personnaly on delivery before letting the UPS guy /girl go. Look at the "bell" for damage.

You are SO right about the poor packaging and damaged parts! Thats why it took so long to finish my trucks "exterior!" Visor was not packed well and was chipped. I'm still awaiting the replacement polished steel wheel well trim that came damaged. This time, when I called the Co. I said I did not feel I should have to deal with the return of the bad piece, as the box was so damaged that I would also have to get a new box just to return it. They said they would send a new set. (JCWhitney-last week)
I had hoped to hear some cool sounds at the Milan meet, but was overwelmed by the looks of all the trucks and for got to listen!
This might sound stupid but I heard the catbacks lose some low end torch? I'm not sure if I want to sacrifice this. Comments anyone?

Andthensometoo,

You are the first woman that has ever told me I was right. Not that I would have admitted I was wrong anyway.

Question

This is my first try at the message board, so go easy on me! Wouldn't we get just as good results if we were to split the exhaust coming off the engine, and run two mufflers and tailpipes instead of the cat-back systems everyone talks about?

Andthensometoo: I had a full dual system put on my truck, and I'm very happy with it. It has that rumble at startup you are looking for, and the ripping sound when you step on it as well. At highway cruising speeds you barely know it's there. I am thrilled with the increase in performance. With a cat-back system you are still bringing 2 pipes into one, which will compromise exhaust flow. I had them cut the pipes after the cats, install 2 Flowmaster 50's and twin pipes running out the back. $370 out the door. I think you'd be pleased.
