Lightbulb Exhaust On 4.6*Quick Reply*

Question on exhaust for my 2001 F-150 Crew Cab 4.6. Would I be ok taking out the muffler and putting a y pipe in place of it and run dual exhaust from there? I need to know whether you will lose torque doing this? Someone told me the faster exhaust gases move, the more torque you will have (to a point). So would I gain torque y-ing it from where the muffler is and out the back? If this hurts torque, whats the loudest flowmaster muffler out there? Thanks Quick reply would be nice

By installing a Y pipe and running no muffler you probley would lost a very slight amount of torque but nothing to crap your pants about. The loudest Flowmaster you can get is probley a 40 non-delta series wtih 2.5" pipes.

Lots of people run dual exhaust my replacing the muffler back. I don't expect much of a drop in torque depending on the muffler choice because the stock y-pipe sucks.

Just so you know, Flowmaster mufflers are not known to provide much power at any engine speed no matter the pipe routing. But, 40 series is the loudest.

Loud does not necessarily equal speed.

What about the 30 guys? They are a one chamber design, by far the loudest. put the 40 to shame. They are actually so loud they are illegal for street vehicles. (here in MO.) If you want the most hp/tq, i have heard many people say the magnaflow is the way to go. On the average not as loud though.

That's what I did. Removed muffler and ran pipes all the way out the back. Sounds good, and didn't notice any torque loss.
