Smile Anyone got an Ultimate yet?

I had to bring some life back into this forum.

So, I'm looking into buying a 2002 Excursion PSD. I haven't wanted to give up the little electronic gadgets you get in the Expy but haven't been able to get even in the Limited Excursion. Like Electronic climate control, HomeLink etc.

So has anyone taken delivery of a Limited Ultimate yet? They don't seem to be very common, yet are only about $1000 or so more than a comparably equiped Limited. I did find one dealer in the the DFW area that seemd to have quite a few, but most others just don't. Probably because they're seller the heck out of them!

I'm going to have a hard time giving up my Expy, especaily after I get the Transgo installed next week, but I've got that "bigger" bug! Maybe it will pass. I've got a request in to the guy I bought my Expy from so we'll see how aggressive Ford is right now with A Plan on a $49000 bus, I mean truck! I think off the street right now sub $40k is easy. A Plan sometimes has additional incentives too.

FamilyRide -

I have a buddy that bought a 2002 Excursion Limited Ultimate No Boundaries. It is all black including the bumpers and side trim pieces. It is a PSD with Beige Leather interior. I drove it a few weeks ago and it is alot longer than our expeditions. I was very dissappointed that for that kind of money, Ford did not put the Auto Climate Control nor a sunroof.

My buddy paid $45K that included the dealer installed 20" Nitto rims with 305/45-20 Toyo tires.

All in all, it is a nice rig - I (like you) was expecting every conceivable option on the truck.

Good luck.

PS - I just installed my Superchip. So far, pretty nice. Not any seat of the pants increases, but definately better and smoother shifting.

I have a 2002 Limited Ultimate PSD 4X4 on order. It's on hold till Jan. 15, 2002 for the DVD rear entertainment system.

All Limited Ultimates have the electronic auto climate control as standard equipment. If 95prostar205's buddy did not get auto climate control, he does not have a 2002 or it is not a limited ultimate.

Ultimates also get Deluxe steering wheel with dual A/C and audio controls, heated front seats, Homelink system, Memory drivers seat, Power memory adjustable pedals. Plus all the features of a Limited.

I currently own a 2000 PSD Excursion Limited and it is the best vehice I have ever owned.

Thanks. It sounds like a sweet truck! That's what I was drawn to with the Ultimate. Finally you can get the creature comforts that you don't need, unles you've had them before. Then you can't live without them!

I'm having a hard time getting my guy to get me a quote. I think it's because they don't have any. Well for now I'm still tinkering with my Expy. I installed a Transgo Shift Kit tonight. I'm pulling out the accumulator valve body again in the morning and going for the next level!

I'm just curious but if you are looking to get an Excursion why are you still putting money into your Expy? My '95 Explorer I will have for a couple more years and there are some things I want to do to it but I won't since it would be a waste of money since I will be getting an Escape. I'm saving my money for my Escape. I figure its not worth it to put moeny into it if your going to get rid of it.

P.S. I wish I could get an Excursion, but, my mom won't get me one.

Because all the fun in owning a Ford is fixing her up for as long as youve got it.

Swofford hit the nail on the head. If next week the dealer made me a deal that I couldn't refuse, I would probably not put the Amsoil in the Expy that I have in the garage, but when you talking about trading (whether trading in or selling etc.) vehicles in the low to mid 20's to the new one right at 50, a couple to 3 hundred bucks doesn't tilt the scale. And actually with what I've bneen doing with the tranny, once I add the Amsoil I may have $300 on the high side.

Of course I'd have about $2500 worth of things that would have to happen to the Excursion pretty quick so that's where the "deal" comes in. So far my dealer can't even quote me "A" Plan on one because they don't have one close to what I spec'd!

However, it'll be hard for my to make the trade. I Just can't find a good reason to get rid of thre Expy. Mow if I could convince my wife to trade her Volvo for the Expy than I could keep it and get the Excursion! She doesn't like the way I think.

Anyone have an informed opinion on the drivability for one of these luxo-beasts vs. a 250/350? Just curious, as I just had a rental Suburban for a week in the mountains, and was really impressed. Felt more like our Explorer than the F250LD as far as ride and handling. Of course, I picked it up with 2 miles on it, and my truck has 101k.

The only one I've driven is a 4x4 V-10. I'm not sure you can fairly compare it to a Suburban although I haven't been in a Suburban in 2-3 years. Teh Excurion is great to drive if you like big and roomy! The 4x4 rides as you would expect from a 4x4 but I thought it was great. Not harsh at all. I think an F350 would be much rougher on you but then again, it's a 1 ton truck.

I wasn't real impressed with the V-10. Of course I'm used to my Expedition. I'm in the process of "consideration" and my only option as far as engine is PowerStroke!

Hey All,

I've been following this thread for the last few weeks, and I have a jones for the Excursion big time. I was doing research on it through Ford's web site (downloaded the pdf brochure and all) but I still have a few questions that can be answered.

1. where did this monochrome black package come from?

2. someone above noted they are waiting on the DVD rear entertainment package... what does this all consist of? better off going aftermarket?

3. 6.8 V10 versus 7.3 Diesel... pros and cons, besides towing?

4. i wouldn't plan on doing any 4 wheeling in a near 50K rig like this, but what are pros and cons for gettin 4x4 versus just 4x2? I'm thinking long distance traveling on hiways would boast better for the 4x2, but would 4x4 bring better resale?

5. I can't find a dealership online who carries a rig w/ the 4 captain chairs option ( looking within GA state lines). Hard to come by, or just looking in the wrong places?

Well that sums up my inquiries for now. With all the rigs i see out there, I would assume a greater bandwidth in the Excursion forum? Anyways, if u can answer any part of my questions I would appreciate it.

As an Excursion owner, I will try to shed some light on this vehicle.

The monochrome black package is the 2002 "No Boundaries" package. As described in the previous message, bumpers, grill, and accents are all black. This is one slick looking machine and is definitely something I would have opted for had it been available in '00 when I bought my '00 Powerstroke Excursion.

2. someone above noted they are waiting on the DVD rear entertainment package... what does this all consist of? better off going aftermarket?
It's a rear seat unit. The rear entertainment system originally came with a VHS deck but starting in February '02, they will be equipped with DVD players instead. It's worth the wait if you don't feel like installing aftermarket equipment. I have an Alpine CVA-1005 display and a DVA-5205 DVD player mounted in the dash of my Excursion. Eventually I'll have additional monitors in the rear.

I see a lot of commercials on TV now about how a DVD player in the rear seat will finally keep the kids from fighting with each other. I predict that in a couple years the big controversy will be over which DVD to watch thus resulting in more fighting between the kids...so we're back to square one. An aftermarket multimedia system will allow you to select multiple sources and install multiple players. This means that if you have multiple monitors, you could choose different sources (DVD, TV, VHS, or another DVD player) for each monitor...thus keeping the kids happy.

3. 6.8 V10 versus 7.3 Diesel... pros and cons, besides towing?
7.3L Powerstroke Diesel hands down.

Pros: More power, better towing capability, better gas mileage. An aftermarket chip will easily allow the diesel to outrun a V10. Diesel fuel prices around here are cheaper than gas, too. 100,000 mile warranty.

Cons: Higher initial cost.

4. i wouldn't plan on doing any 4 wheeling in a near 50K rig like this, but what are pros and cons for gettin 4x4 versus just 4x2? I'm thinking long distance traveling on hiways would boast better for the 4x2, but would 4x4 bring better resale?
While I don't do any hardcore 4-wheeling, these are great hunting vehicles. 4x4 on the hunting trails is the difference between being stuck and not being stuck. A 2wd will ride a little bit nicer. Many people opt for the 2wd if they are in an are where they will never need 4 wheel drive. I live in Minnesota so it's great for the winters, although this winter has been pathetic in terms of snowfall.

5. I can't find a dealership online who carries a rig w/ the 4 captain chairs option ( looking within GA state lines). Hard to come by, or just looking in the wrong places?
Hard to come buy. These are generally special order items that the dealer can install for you (it's an option on the '02s, back in '00 this wasn't even an option, but I heard of a few dealers who did it anyway).

Well that sums up my inquiries for now. With all the rigs i see out there, I would assume a greater bandwidth in the Excursion forum? Anyways, if u can answer any part of my questions I would appreciate it.
Hopefully this helps you out. I bought my X off the lot with just a few miles in August of '02. It now has 43,500 miles on it and it is running better than ever. Check out the link in my signature for further details and plenty of pictures.

FYI, for what it's worth...

2002 Limited Ultimate 4X4
Powerstroke
3.73 LS
Rear Seat Entertainment
Power Telescoping Mirrors
In-dash CD
Adn I think that's about it, actually about all you can get

MSRP $49656
"A" Plan $40909

Plus any retail incentives available. Doesn't include any special A Plan incentives either.

When I bough my Expy, A Plan was about $2200 below invoice and was the deepest discounted vehicle in the A Plan. From the surface, this doesn't look like a deal worth jumping up a down about....although, dang what a sweet truck!!

MSRP on my X in August '00 was $46,000 and change. I drove off the lot with it for $41,000.

There are a few "yuppie" features that I think the X is missing (climate control and auto-dimming side-view mirrors) but outside of these small things, I can do just about anything with this vehicle.

BTW, very nice boat you have there!!!

When I bought our latest expy I initially drove home a V-10 Excursion. I did not care for how the Excurison handled at 75mph. Besides the body roll there was just no jam above 75. My '99SD PS had a lot better pick up at that speed. Having said that I would still get a Excursion if they would somehow manage to get a AWD system in the truck( I know it isn't likely with the torque). It would be hard to convince my wife about getting another diesel though.
