The only problem with the Hummer has in offroading, is the suspension stretch test, where they drive one side of the truck on a ramp, and measure how far it stretches. Call me bias, but I'd yank that bow tie crap out, and put a real motor in.

The real diesel motor would be the powerstroke. The real gasser motor would be the 6.8 liter triton v10. Or how about the Lightnings supercharged v8....

Cool

If you are in a area where you could run across landmines, the Hummer would be best. If you lived in Kuwait or Los Angeles, good choice. The Excursion and Hummer are excellent for what they were designed for,but they are not priced for working people. Professional athletes, Hollywood stars will probably drive these and never on an unpaved road.

Hummer/Excursion? WOW! You guys are comparing Bricks to Bagels,

The Hum-vee has 4 wheel independent suspension, The best set-up for distibuting torque to all wheels on on un-even ground.
The EX. has staight axles front and rear if I'm not mistaken, That's the worst set-up for articulation.

The Hum-vee has standard 37 in. tires and 18" of ground clearance unloaded and 16 in. fully loaded. NO LIFT! thats even better. There is absolutely nothing hanging below the frame and all drive shafts are routed inside the A-arms, Well protected.

So the Power stroke has better power overall,
that doesn't make it track any better. as a matter of fact, too much torque will give you hard times on slippery ground.

You can spend $170,000.00 on mods to your EX. and it still won't go where a hum-vee goes.
Granted, most owners don't off-road them much, (shame on them)

The only short coming I see is the hum-vee's width, Much too wide to get around in the dense forest that I'm accustom to playing in.

But then again. The EX's size would prove to be very clumsy off road also.

A much closer comparison would be EX/Suburban
You'll never touch a Hum-vee

Cool

I just test drove a Hummer a few days ago. 1999 Yellow one. $100,130 for it. I tested it at Lake Saint Louis Hummer. The largest Hummer dealer in the world. The entire dealership is Hummers! Like people have said before, it is in a class all by itself. The thing that suprised me most about it, is how little room is inside of it. Its sits four people and you are cramped up inside. Not as much room as the Excursion or for that fact the Explorer! Being a 23 year old I floored the sucker on the way out of the dealer. Boy, it did take off, but the top spead is only 83 mph. But to make my point again, (and some of yours) the Hummer is in a class of its own and can't be compared to anything.
