Wink Excursion Diesel

I'm looking at buying an Excursion, 2000-2004 and I'm wondering a couple things....
whats the difference between the 6.0L and the 7.3L turbo disel? And does the regular family guy need that? Also, what year and what size motor does a man need to get if he doesn’t have anything to pull, ,but would like to pull something if the situation arised.

6.0 has more power and the 7.3 is more reliable
If it was me and i wanted something to pull with occasionally id get the Petrol V10

Ok, Im learning about the Ford Excursion, but idk what to believe. Some sites have blogs that praise the creation, others say stay far away. I want to get the best gas milage one can get, but which motor? what milage can i expect. The EX from the years 2000-2004 seem to be in my price range. Are there any real warnings out there?

I have a 2001 excursion with a 7.3. Gets about 18mpg on the highway and probably 14ish in the city. Its an amazing vehicle. Other than brakes and changing the oil, nothing else has had to be done really. Super strong at 155,000. Use it to pull at 33 foot travel trailor, and it works great.

You can see it in the background. Thats my 150 too.. both really great vehicles.

Yea and as soon as you hook something to that V10 your going to be getting around 2mpg! haha. I'd get the 7.3L.

The only problem with the 7.3 is the tranny - the 4R100 was pretty marginal. The 6.0 had the 5R110, major improvement. The most *reliable* combo would be a gasser V-10 with the 5R110, only available in the 05 (last year) to the best of my knowledge.

The 4r100 is good til about 150K. Maybe higher, maybe lower. You get it rebuilt, life goes on. Even with the cost of a rebuild, it'd still be MUCH cheaper maintaining a 7.3/4r100 than a 6.0/5r110.

And you can forget about 150k on a 4R100 as soon as you do any significant mods that up the torque and start trying to haul heavy loads or tow anything.

Well maybe I have the one and only 4R100 that lasts, and I pull at 33 foot travel trailer(loaded) and jet skis a few times a year.
