Thinking About Trading my '04 F150 for an Excursion

I've been thinking about this for quite some time. I'd like a bit more towing capacity than the F150 can handle and my family is growing out of my 4DR truck. It would be ideal for me to trade for an Excursion of equal value, but I'm thinking I'd probably have to shell out a few bucks to get the vehicle I want. My question is, what models or engines should I stay away from? I most certainly want a diesel, just not sure which one. I'd like to stay around an '02 or up to an '04 if I can find one in my price range. I've been trolling around the PSD forums and reading tons of stuff.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

all i can say is get one with a 7.3 diesel. its the best engine made by ford, very reliable and a beast when it comes to towing.

I've heard lots of good things about the motor, but the tranny is terrible, from what I've read.

I'd like to hear from a few of the X owners on here about their rigs...

I have a 2004 Ex w/ the 6.0L and I love it!
I installed ARP head studs before the warranty expired and deleted the EGR cooler.
You wont be disapointed at all with any of them.
Its my urban assualt vehicle.
Ill post some pics

Sweet rig, thanks for the pic. I've found a few that I like, but of course none of them are close...the one I like the most is 229 miles away.

The 3rd row seating is what she's after and the diesel is what I'm after. The Screw cabs just aren't big enough for our needs. For my everyday use, they're fine, but when I travel every summer, and by travel I mean 2K mile trip, the F150 just doesn't have enough inside space. It tows our travel trailer, but my MPG sucks when I do.

We are planning on having another child in the next year or so and we will be out of space when that happens. I'm trying to be proactive and my wife is saying to check out Tahoes and Suburbans if I can't find an Excursion...uh oh .

I just recently traded my 07 KR f150 for an 05 limited 6.0l and love it!
It does take a little getting use to. Turns a little wider, brakes a little slower but over al love it! Tows much better the my f150 and is much more comfortable! I am also getting better mileage then the f150! If you dont drive a lot the V10 would be great but I do drive a lot so I went with the diesel for the mileage! Driving both I liked the V10 for the quietness verses the diesel. I am getting us to the diesel sound though!

Lately, I've included the Expy in my search. I am going to look at an '06 Expy EB this week. I don't know if it will be big enough, but at least I'll get a chance to check it out.

The Expedition EB was very nice, but I'm hoping to hold out for either an '07 Expy EL or a diesel Excursion that has what I am after. We stopped and looked at an '05 Yukon XL Denali and it's a perfect size and all, but my wife hates the interior. She said it's terrible compared to the Ford's and she's from a full blooded GM family. I guess I'll keep looking for my EL or a diesel Ex.

The transmission is an issue - the 7.3 only had the 4R100, which was marginal. The 5R110 didn't come till the 6.0, and the 05 gassers.

I ended up getting an '07 Expy EB loaded minus power fold mirrors, rear heated seats(both come on Limited models only) and NAV. I didn't really care about the NAV since my blackberry does it just fine, but I will be adding the power fold mirrors...handy when the wife pulls it into the garage. I've got battle scars on the door frame from the wife trying to navigate the F150 in. I could care less about rear heated seats, my passengers will have to wait for the heat in the air instead of on the butt. One thing I DO like is the A/C front seats, sweet idea with leather. It's not an F150, bit it'll do until I can get back into a truck, F250 diesel supercrew.
