The one I looked at was just a hair over $54K MSRP, or for a grand less you can get the Harley Davidson SD.

This is what's really killing the Excursion. That, and it's not "appealing" to women. |

Oh, so Ford's plan to kill the Excursion after 2004/2005 has been shelved?
----------------------------------------- I think they make $10,000 even with the deep discounts.... The Expedition was netting Ford $10,000 per vehicle sold and the Navigator $15,000 back in 1998- when the Expedition was $31,000 for an Eddie Bauer and $36,000 for a Navigator. Now, if you just pay the sticker- a Navigator can hurt you for over $60,000 and a well-appointed Expy will lighten your wallet for $45,000 +. So, the Excursion- is probably in the same boat- regarding cost to build -vs- profit. Were it based upon the F-150 to begin with, I think Ford would have sold far more than they did basing it off the F-250. Women make the difference. I bet if you count the next 10 Expeditions you see, 8 of them will have women behind the wheel. If you can find 10 Excursions, I'll bet 9 of them will be driven by men. |

I'm willing to bet that with a few mods they can shoe-horn the 6.0L diesel into the Expedition.
If Chevy can cram a 6.0 into a Corvette, Ford can cram a 6.0 into an Expedition. If Dodge can cram an 8.4L V-10 into a Viper (And RAM), Ford can cram that V-10 into the Expedition. Will they? I doubt it.... Recently, Ford has appeared content with 2nd place- as long as the F-150 & Explorer keep winning..... |

You would need it ot handle the torque of the PSD. And then the remaining drivetrain would need to be upgraded to handle the added torque. |

And as mentioned, it needs a tranny to go along with it. |
Originally posted by FamilyRide  It's not that easy. Why hasn't Chevy shut down Ford SUV sales with a Suburban with a DMax? A diesle engine is not only bigger, but a whole lot heavier. And as mentioned, it needs a tranny to go along with it. Glad to see your stilll around. I havent been here in A LONG time, but miss my expedition. Glad to see your having fun w/ the Excursion! Take care! |

Originally posted by J-150 this one I don't understand. Before the Duramax and the current redesign, a diesel option was available on the 3/4 ton Suburbans (I think it was the 6.5 GM diesel) J-150, That's the point :D The Dmax/Alli won't fit so they haven't done it yet. YET. ;) I've seen a spy pic (bad one) of the stretched Expy (2007 MY) and the rumor is still alive that it'll come with a V6 Diesel. |
That's what I was wondering....
The Suburban had a diesel option and a 454 V-8 option as well. And, the Suburban does out-sell the Excursion. Ironically, the Tahoe now out-sells the Expedition (2-3 years in a row now). Chevy will never "shut-down' Ford SUV sales because Ford has a loyal group of owners as well. Months ago Ford announced plans to kill the Excursion and the Mercury Marauder. I'm sure the Merc is dead- has the Excursion been given a new lease of life? |

If the 3/4 ton can fit the DMax and the 1500 has the same cab-forward, why wouldnt it fit? What am I missing? Or are they that different and just look the same? |
