Keyless entry keypad caution

For those considering the keypad mod to your truck, there is a caution I want to pass on.

I ordered the parts from www.fordpartsonline.com and the handle did not match exactly. From what I've read here and elsewhere, the XL1Z- handle is for the Expedition, which has a different window track. The XL1Z- handle would not fit my 2002 F150 Supercab. I've read where others encountered this same problem. The folks at fordpartsonline told me to remove the long rod and exhange the lift handles. Most of the mod diaries I read described cutting the counterweight bracket to fit around the window track.

Unless you want your door to fly open in a side impact, DO NOT CUT the counterweight off the handle. You need to exchange the handle with the single counterweight for the double. The counterweight is designed to prevent the door from opening in a side impact. I am an engineer that spent years designing seat belts. Believe me when I tell you that the impact of a crash can make a seemingly light plastic part open itself. (One of my projects was to make seat belts resistant to self-release in a crash. The actual term for the phenomenon was "inertial release.")

Someone with connections needs to find out the ACTUAL part numbers for each of the door models so future modders don't have to alter their handles.

(Of course, this warning is moot if you have your door locked when you're hit, but just in case you've disabled Autolock®....)

The part numbers that are posted here and elsewhere are the part numbers listed in the books and computer from Ford. I have been trying like mad to locate the part number for the one with the really long single counterweight on it and have been completely unsuccessful.

I just moved the bracket from my current handle to the new handle when I did mine. But I want to find and install the correct handle because knowing that is ghetto rigged inside the door bothers me.
