Fogs Out - Need Help
Fogs Out - Need Help
OK, here is the deal. I have the factory Lightning fogs on my SCrew (installed by dealer with factory wiring and switch). Did the foglight mod along time ago with no problems. A couple of months ago I installed some 80/100 watt hyperwhite bulbs. Ran great until recently when both lights went out - indicator light on factory switch is showing lights on.
5 amp foglight fuse under dash was blown. Replaced it, but fogs are still off.
I still need to check the fuse and relay in the box under the hood.
Has anyone else had this happen?? Any other suggestions on what I should check??
Thanks in advance!!

Check the fuse under the hood...I doubt if oyu blew the relay, but it sounds like you tripped both fuses...I had a problem similar to this on my 99 ranger when I upgraded the factory foglights to..i think they were Catzeyes or soemthing I can't remember. they worked fine for about a month and than nothing...checked had blown both fuses...replaced them and was fine for awhile, than the blew again...
I jsut got sick of it so I got an offroad lighting kit ( with relays and all), and ran new power to the lights...I still used the factory switch...I jsut pulled off the bezel...took out my Multimeter, and probed teh wires with the switch off...found my 12V constant...than found the other wire that got 12V's with the switch on....and that was that...
but you said you jsut upgraded the bulbs...so check the fuses...you might be putting too big of a load on the fuse...
also make sure the bulbs aren't blown...you might have gotten a current spike that caused the fuses and bulbs to blow...it's not common but it does happen...RARELY....
another thing check all the wires..make sure none of them are rubbed raw..they might have shroted out that way to...

Thanks Death
- I will check it all out. Before upgrading the bulbs, I kept having trouble with one side blowing. Ended up using heat shrink when I installed the new ones and they have worked great up until now. After posting, I did remember that I had not even checked the bulbs, but figured with both out at the same time it must be something else.
Thanks again!!
