Question 2001 F150 Autolamp problem

Hi everyone! I have a 2001 F150 Supercrew with Auto Lamps (on at dusk/dark) and it is having some problems. This just started happening a while back and it is getting anoying.

The headlamp switch has these options:
1. Autolamp (turns on at dusk/night)
2. Off position
3. Parking lamps
4. Headlamp (manual on)
5. Fog Lights (pull out on switch)

My truck does not have DRL on it so I know the DRL option can't be the problem. But when it gets dark outside and the switch is set to the off position the headlamp/tail lamps still come on. Accoring the the service tech at my local ford dealer this should not be happening.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I pulled out the light switch from the dash on the truck and un-plugged the wire harness and the lights turned off. Is it as simple as the switch being bad like I have been thinking??

Thanks for the help!

If the truck is in warranty, let them deal with it. If I had to wager, I would guess bad switch though.

If its not under Warranty, the switch is cheap (less than $45.00 from fordpartsonline.com)

Okay that is great news. Glad to hear that someone else thinks it is the stupid switch too.

Yes it is still under waranty but at least now I can tell them where to start with it.

I find it hard to let a dealer have my vehicle all day long...makes it hard to do my job.

Thanks again for your help!
