Question How hard to change multifunction(malfunction) switch yourself?

I've never had the phantom wiper problem, just the hazardous and annoying delayed washer syndrome, along with intermittent wipers acting strangely. The intermittent wiper problem is........When the wipers are on intermittent settings, they will swipe once, wait the proper amount of time, then swipe 3 or 4 times without stopping. It's no big problem, aside from being weird and squeaking on the windshield when it's not raining that hard. How hard is it to change the lever yourself?? I have had the column and dash covers off a hundred times, but I never looked that close. I just want to solve this annoying problem once and for all. How difficult is it??,,,,98

Have you tried cleaning it yet???

It sounds as though yours is doing exactly what my had until I cleaned it last weekend. When I removed the inards, I found it was so coated with dielectric grease that the contacts were not touching.

To clean it, you can pop the end off with your finger nail and then remove the retaining screw. After that, the parts slide out. After cleaing it, I was amazed that it actually works the way it was intended. No more eratic wipers and I can clean the windshield by simply pressing a button I couldn't do that before.

To replace it, the manual states to remove the ignition cylinder and the steering column shroud.

There is a cap at the end of the lever. It pops off. If you get out there and look, you'll see it.

Red face

Haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. I'm in downtown Philly right now, and that means parking garage.,,,,98
