Console Light Installation Project

I'm looking for some information on installing a light in my console. It's huge and always VERY dark towards the bottom...

Here's what I was thinking...

Maybe a mercury switch on the lid and some type of 'small' light mounted under the lip of the console...

I'm not sure where to get power though. The CD Changer wire would only be hot while the key is 'on'. Where could I run the wire? I was thinking that it might be cool along with the interior lights. AKA, if the dome light is on, the console light is on but, that kind of defeats the purpose. I just want to lift the lid and have light.... no matter when...

What do you all think? Any suggestions?

Could I just run my power and ground up to the back seat light (SCREW) since it's hot all the time?
