Can I easily add the door keypad?

I just got a 2003 F-150 XLT with the standard keyless entry. In the owners manual there is a card with a number code for the keyless entry but I do not have a keypad on the door handle.

Does this mean that the wiring is in the door and all I have to do is replace the drivers handle with a keypad version and that code will work? If so, is it difficult to do?

Thanks,

Yes, it's a fairly simple addition. You will need to get the correctly colored door handle and the kepad. When I did mine, I orded the parts from www.fordpartsonline.com.

Here is a site with step-by-step how-to:
www.svtlightnings.com

If you can read the side bar, click in "How To", then "Keyless Keypad Install".

Installing is pretty straight forward. The hardest thing that I remember was getting the door lock actuator off the handle. It's held on with a spring clip, but it is very hard to get to. The wiring harness is in the door, so you just plug the connector coming off the keypad into it and it's ready to go.

I have a '99 without the plug in the driver’s door above the speaker (unfortunately). Has anyone else here done this upgrade the hard way? I read the article referred to above but had a question about the connections at the RAP module. My question: Would splice the 8 wires into the current wires going into the RAP module work?

Thanks,
Johnny

I did mine. It was not hard. There are no wires to splice into. You add the wires to the plug. I used the little plugs like you make r232 cables with. I think PEP boys has the actual pins

GeneKend.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm going to look at my ARP module to see where the wires plug into. I guess it will be pretty obvoious, huh?

OK, I got all my parts. All I need are the connectors to plug into the ARP. I went to Pep Boys but could not find the correct size. Can anyone help me out? Model number, name of connectors, or where I could purchase?

Thanks,
Johnny
