Angry Odometer Fruad!

Hi everyone well I got the dash problem fixed and for a lot less than what Frod wanted. But thats not the point I should have never had this problem in the first place on friday I drove 50 miles to a recomended auto tech I watched as he checked my GEM not the problem so the dash came apart when the cluster was removed the Tech and I noticed a Thin Strand of speaker wire coming from the back of the Cluster after taking the cluster apart we found something that caused my heart to sink. One of the previous owners had spliced the power wire going to the odometer added the "Speaker Wire" and ran it down to the floor board making a "Power switch" for the odometer. I had seen this wire before and figgured it to be a loose connection from the alarm install so I tucked it under the dash 2 Weeks later I hit a bump in the road that caused it to touch something shorting out the entire instrument cluster. well $650 I had my new cluster installed but the point is that I was lied to and im mad I paid for something that was not there. I ran a Carfax report on it only to find about 4 owners of the truck so to narrow it down would not be possible. The Mechanic told me that they dont make wiring diagrams for the wires used to make that odo connection he suspected it was a Ford employee. oh well I will never buy another used truck after this situation and I hope this never has to happen to anyone else.

If it was a digital odometer, the actual milage should be stored in the computer, unless this is the way people have now found to get around this.

****ers!!!

What was the milage that the truck showed when you bought it???

It's a '98 so, it's not digital.

(try tapping the IAC or borrow a flight recorder from Ford)

Did you buy from a private party? If you bought from a dealership you may have some recourse due to the fact that the vehicle you bought had been misrepresented.

Just goes to show the lengths people will go to in an attempt to line their pockets.

Nice thinking. It was likely an accessory that the previous owner wanted tied into the instrument cluster lighting, such as a gage or something of the sort. I can't think of what an alarm would have to do with it. None the less, I agree, electrical tampering will have nothing to do with your mechanical odometer.
