Question Auto Door Locks on '97 XLT

I need some help disabling my auto door locks. I've tried searching threads, but no ones' auto door lock feature seems to work the same as on my truck. Mine's a '97 XLT 4X4 X-Cab without the factory keyless entry. My doors lock automatically whenever you start the vehicle, not when you put it in gear or start moving. They auto-unlock when you turn the ignition off. I hate this feature! All it is good for is locking you out when you go to let your truck warm up on a cold morning. I can't use the "sequence" technique I've read about in other threads, since I don't have the factory keyless entry (I tried anyway - no dice). HELP!

Did you buy the truck New? If not maybe the previous owner had installed a remote starter or keyless entry prior to you purchasing it. The remote starters can be programmed to lock before and after a cranking operation this would explain why it locks after you start it and just before you start it.

I bought it used. As far as I know, it doesn't have a remote starter, but what hardware should I check for and where? Thanks.

It sounds like you have an aftermarket keyless entry . What does the remote look like , if you have a digital camera send me a pic of the remote and I will tell you what brand it is and how to disable the autolock.

As far as I know, it doesn't have keyless entry. At least I didn't get a FOB with the truck. What mods would I look for to check?

Check under the dash for a black box that looks like it has been added or look under the trim on the drivers side pillar and see if there is an antennae. You could also look under the hood to see if there has been a hood switch aded or if there is any extra power wires added to the battery or the solenoid power terminal. If you have any or all of these items you probably have a remote starter. Any mechanic or audio shop could check for you as well. You could then get a remote for the unit and you would have keyless entry and remote start.

Sure enough. I found what appears to be a control module. I can't find a brand name, but the model number listed on the front is "RED-8". A small, 4-wire plug is labled "DOOR LOCK". A larger, 5- wire plug has the individual wires labled as follows: "ORANGE = #3 CHANNEL", "GRAY = TRUNK", "YELLOW = ACC. 12V", "BLACK = GROUND", "RED = +12V". It also has what appears to be a reset button on the exposed part of the circuit board. I'm attempting to post pictures of the front and back. Anyone know exactly what this is and what brand? Any ideas on where I might score a compatible remote? Thanks![IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
