Question Door Ajar

On my '97 F-150 XLT Supercab the Door Ajar light stays illuminated as does the inside dome light for a while sometimes longer than others. This only happens during the day. I also had this problem with a '97 F-150 XL Regular Cab but when it started happening at night it got so annoying that I had to just remove the dome light bulb. Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to remedy the situation?

Welcome aboard Bart.

Congratulations!!! You are the owner of one of the most common ailments of the F150. You can fix it by sending $20 to P.O. Box 235 , Just Kidding. The switch that controls the lights and Door Ajar light is buried in the door latch itself, and it gets stuck. The prevailing fix is to shoot WD40 or Carb/Choke cleaner into the latch of each door. Don't be stingy, some guys have had to shoot so much in that it ran out the weep holes at the bottom. Open and shut the doors half a dozen times and the problem should go away.

Thanks for the help, but why is it that it occurs on clear warm day?

Don't complain or next time you end up with the problem it will be a dark cold stormy night and you be trying to spray some wd40 in the latch.

. . . and don't wait to fix this or the rear light above the cab will actually burn a hole in the plastic housing if left on for too long.
