Gear shift release

Stoped to get a cup of coffee. When I tryed to move the gear shift, it would not move. I finally removed fuze number 5. That let me move the gear shift Now brake lights, cruise control, auto door locks, and 4 wheel drive will not work. Any one know what is common, to these? It is a 1998 F150 4X4 supercab.

Brake safety interlock switch. Senses that the brake pedal is applied so vehicle will not move when pulled into gear. It might use the same switch as your brake pedal. If so, your brake lights wouldnt work at all anyways.

it is the same sw. your brake light sw. but if you have an alarm. check the wires to the sw. its very very common for the wires to be broken. and look ok. those wires need to move free with brake padal. and most alarm installs. zip tie everything to bottom of collumn. and bind those wires. it will brake at the sw. the plastic cover on the wire will look ok but the wire inside will be open. so check the wire carefully. it wiil be the sw on the brake padal. with two green wires going to it. one green and one green with a red stipe. one will have power all of the time and the other when you apply press to pedal. good luck. rememmber those wires need to move free. with brake pedal. so not to pull tight on wire's.

Checked wires and replaced switch. There must be a relay, or module, that this switch goes to. It controls too many things. Stop lights, speed control release, shift release, auto door locks and the 4 wheel drive system will not ingage, with the fuze out. With the fuze in, 4 wheel drive is the only thing that works.

no relay. no module. it's gets power from #13 fuse under dash. that goes right to the stop light sw. and from there it goes to all other module's. so you have a wireing concern if # 13 is ok. the wires at the sw will look ok but can be broken. check it with a test light. and press on and off brake pedal. with press on pedal you will have power on both side's. now your going to wnat to check it where you can see the terminal. go back on wire about an inch. and see if you have power on the light green wire with press on pedal. if no power then make sure you have power at the sw on the light green with red. like i said the wire will look ok. the light green with red have power all of the time. and the light green is the switched power. that goes out from the sw. good luck. hope this helps.
