Yea, thats how visteon and the rebuilt cluster shops check it on the bench. They have signal generators and then compare it to how the cluster sees it.

We dont use it at all.

Never had it on a Ford to tell you if it will read P1.
I seem to recall that GM & Ford send both generic DTC and enhanced DTC codes.
The unit is only a 4 digit read, so the P0 / P1 is not an option, on the model I have, so I would imagine that is is P0 only.
I have the CP9035. There are more expensive models, but I did not see the need for one of them, considering this is a 200.00 tool, not the 400.00 + tool. I know a mechanic if I need something that complicated.

SSCULLY:

Thanks for the information. I was thinking about getting one just not sure what to get but as you I don't want to go and spend a lot of money for something I don't really need.

I got the ref for it off of this board.

I looked at the ones that get hooked into a computer, but decided against it.

I used it on a few friends cars already, and it seems to do good.

Hey guys ive been seeing this topic everywhere since becoming a FORD owner. I have all the info on this you need. Those codes actually transfer into OBDII codes. they are in Hexadecimal form. Its not hard to figure out when you have the cheat sheet. I dont remember it all of the top of my head but i do have this info saved on my PC. Ill look up the rest soon and start a thread explaining it in great detail. basicly you are doing what the scan gauge does except the old fashioned way. Not all DTC codes are stored here but only some continues memory ones are. and this test will show u if a module isnt behaving and so much more. but thats for later

for a quickie though the first # of ur DTC from the gauge test mode is ur "normal" DTC prefix : (see below)

0 is P0
1 = P1
2 = P2
3 = P3
4 = C0
5= C1
6 = C2
7 = C3
8=B0
9=B1
a = B2
b = B3
c = U0
d = U1
e = U2
f = U3

The next three file in right after that and you look them up as OBDII codes.
9318 is low batt. and its not saying u have a bad battery as a warning to keep u from being dead at wall mart. its saying it cant keep its memory alive and u have no learning stored.
9352 - key-in ignition failure - meaning its getting a key on signals from position, voltage, or IC failure. IC failure can indicate more problems since the IC is the gateway for every computer to talk wachother must go through (think of ur gauges as facebook)
Might be a newb to the site but ive been stalking this one and a few for awhile. I have pages of information on this test mode.

I got curious myself and didnt stop til i found it (alldata, motorcraftmechanic.com, and a few other mechanic resources each had a diff piece of the puzzle). I could unplug my EGR MAF and Fuel temp/press sensores with no MIL on and no engine change at all. I did this test and after i left the test i got test lights and ran like crap. so i plugged them back in and bam. running good again. almost seemed to reinitialize the PCM
