2002 with defective airbag module
I just bought a used 2002 F-150 sc xlt 4.6 v8 auto and noticed a series of 5 beeps that goes on for about 30 seconds after you start the truck. My salesman at first thought it was the seatbelt but I decided to try the passenger airbag switch and it didn't light up when I turned it off. The service department checked it out and said it was a defective airbag module and placed an order for the part. They said my airbags were not working at all and this wasn't the first case they had seen in a 2002. The other person they had heard of didn't find out until he crashed and the airbags didn't work. The truck has never been in an accident so I was wondering, has anyone else had this problem?
See it from time to time, but the 5 beeps means the bulb in the dash isnt reading continuity, like a bad bulb, or bad connection. If it does this brandnew like that i bet when they put the new IABM in , they will still have to fix whats really wrong with it.
i have seen this just the other day. and it was a bad module. the owner thoght it was the seat belt chime. and waited until it was out of warrenty. they are just electronic modules. they will fail. from now on. when you start you truck. the air bag light will allways light up to let you know its working. and them go out. its called prove out. if you do not see it prove out. then you have no air bags. i know your not going to check this every time. but from time to time. just check it. just be glad your still covered.
