whining from fm modulator HELP!!!

I installed dvd player a few weeks ago and when i listen to it while im driving on the highway, there is a consistent whine from the stereo, and when i accelerate the whie gets higher and louder. I have everything hardwired to my battery. does anyone know of a way that i can stop the whine or anything? Any help would be great.

Is your FM modulator connected directly to your antenna lead or is it wireless? Usually, the sound you are describing (alternator whine) can be attributed to a ground loop or other grounding issue. One way to possibly fix it would be to common-ground every component in your system (i.e. ground the radio, DVD player, modulator, etc. all to the same point). Noise could also be entering through the antenna lead but if the noise only occurs on DVD, then it is not likely. Also, keeping your RCAs and speaker leads away from the power cables can help reduce or eliminate noise.

Do you have an old truck or an aftermarket ignition system?

It's been years since I heard of this problem so I could be wrong or my memory faulty. Back in the 70's there were a lot of problems with radio whine especially on aftermarket radios. I think that it was caused by the spark plugs and plug wires. One of the solutions was to go to high impedance spark plug wires but the easy solution was to buy a filter and install it on either the antenna or the power wire to the radio. I don't remember that well because I never had the problem on my radios.

The new spark systems are very different so I would be leery of changing to another type of plug wire. The filters used to be for sale at all of the automotive stereo shops. I think your best bet would be look for a noise suppresion filter. Hopefully, you can find one for the radio power wire.

My DVD player uses RCA connection to the modulator, then it connects through the antenna into the stereo, and it is a 99 f150, so its a newer truck

Rob's comment about a single ground point is sounding like a very good idea. I think that I would also try contacting the DVD manufacurer and ask them about recommendations on noise suppresion. Especially if they were the ones who recommended connecting the DVD signal to the stereo through a modulator and antenna.
