??Power Mirrors??

Hi,
I have power mirrors on my '97 Ext cab truck and they were working initially And that's for both – left and right…
But after a while if I tried moving a mirror, say, to the left it was moving to the left and down instead or if I needed to move it to the right it was moving to the right and up… So it was hard to adjust it….
Now I have a slightly different picture. I can move a mirror to the right only…
It looks like the motor is working but by some reason it moves in one direction only…
Is there any one who could help me and tell how to fix the problem? It's not a big deal but it's getting annoying…
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

The switch is probably corroded. There is a copper tab for each direction the mirror travels. If that tab gets too much build up, it won't make contact.

You can take it apart and clean all of the contacts and re-assemble it with dialectric grease in about an hour. An new switch costs around $15.00 if you'd rather try that.

I had the same thing happen with mine. I just went to Ford and had the switch replaced under warranty.

Where is the switch located? Could you please provide some instructions on how to fix it?
Alex.

I believe the switch is part of the unit that is mounted in the door panel. The control **** mounts to the switch where the contacts are.

I searched the forum and I think that the real question is like that...
The switch is located on the door panel along with the windows and door lock controls and I need just to pop up the panel to change the switch.
Is that correct?
I am not good at poping up plastic things have a bad history of doing it
So how easy should I pull the panel? Should I use a screwdriver or any tool or just hands and a magic words ?
Thanks!

no tool needed...

To pull off that panel, just grab it towards the front where it come to a point, and pull up.

I just grab it with my fingernails ( which are not long by any means ).

This was posted for another mod, but it gives you an idea of which end to grab. I use a hing motion, not pulling up on the rear, and it lifts off real easy.

You might even be able to try contact cleaner, and see if that works. Else trip for parts is in order.

Which you are in there, maybe you'll want to do this mod anyway. <g>
