Question High/Low Beams & Foglights at Same Time?

I own a '97 XLT 4x4 and I was wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket kit or a modification to allow for both high and low beams and factory fog lamps to all illuminate at once. I'm sure there's no harm (assuming it's legal) for highs and fogs to be on at the same time, but what about highs/lows? I know there are kits for chevy (4 headlight) systems, but I haven't seen anything for two-light systems. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

you can get in touch with Bill Voyles at this site. He has done this mod. Haven't heard from him in a while to see how everything is working.

IT is for a Shovie

I know that Summit sells a painless wiring kit for the Chevy to be able to have both lights on at the same time.

This is a plu in module, but it you don't want to take the touble to build the kit yourself this would be a quick change, splicing the wires into the existing.

Would there be any potential harm in having both elements on in the same headlight if I were to use the Chevy kit?

The Chevy Kit has the relay ( and Diode I do believe ) that stops problems of current back flow from the high beam, lighting the low beam, back to the headlight switch.

As far as heat, I would not think that adding the head output from the low element to the high element. Maybe for safety sake, this would be for when the truck is moving, to make sure air flow is going over the headlight bucket.

BTW I never checked the Painless wiring web site to see if there is one for a Ford.

The kit has the plug ins for dual headlights, with 2 connectors.

If you modify the Chevy kit, it is not a 5 sec job, it will take some time to splice the wires into the Ford headlights ( if a kit does not exist for the Ford ).

One more question : is this just for additional lighting close in when the high beams are on ?

If so, maybe looking at a set of driving lights, that the relay gets wired to the high beam. Just a thought.

Question

Exactly what modifications did you make? Did you modify the switch itself? Did you convert the Chevy kit?

Thumbs up It works

Found how to do it on another web site. I just pulled the headlight switch out and took a short piece of wire to connect the yellow and brown wires. I just bared the ends and stuck it into the back side of the switch plug. So now my fog lights come on anytime I turn on any lights (ie parking, lows, brights or auto). Also if you want brighter foglights try the 9005 lights I believe, they have more wattage.

i think the fog light mod is cool. but have seen several problems with running both elemants at same time. melting the headlight lens. and same prob. with some hight watt blue bulbs. and the high watt bulbs when a relay is not installed. has melted the turn signal switch and wirring. to many amps for the sw. as for the both elements at same time. it could just be the hot california weather to. butt i would keep a close eye on it. so you dont have to buy lens.

Melting can be a problem...

The Chevy kit is made for the 2 headlight bucket setup, so the additional heat would not be that bad.

Another site has a type of mod tha tmight do what you are looking for ( in addition to the fog light switch mod ) where the corner lights have additional lighting put in them.
http://www.f150world.com/howto.asp
How-To Brighten Your Corner Lenses if the name of the how to.
( over there you need to be registered to get to these, unlike here ).

BE WARED : This how to tells you up front not to use these unless you are driving at speed, to keep air moving past them, else it will melt the turn signal bucket.

Mine, I've got Piaa 510 & 520 lights in the Piaa airdam, so the fog light mod is n/a for me, I use the stock Piaa wiring harness.

All in all your best bet is for the fog light switch mod, to get the additional lighting. If you want anything more look into additional fog / driving lights with a stock relay and switch harness, as your best bet.
I have always been leary of adding more wattage ( exp. if you are using super bright lights ) in a single bucket.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.
