You got a 7 pin trailer connector?

Yeah, sure do. The plastic bundler/insulation thing is already slit for easy access too.

Pull one of your tail lights and take a look. Tap in right behing the original backup lights. The connection will be up high and protected. If you use one of those splice in connectores, put a dab of bulb grease in the connector before you crimp it closed. That will seal out moisture and minimize corrosion. Good idea to put a 3-5amp fuse inline with those extra lights too, assuming they are 55W each.

In that case you can tap into the wires near the 7 pin plug. Wire colors are

Yellow - left stop/turn
green - right stop/turn
brown/white - tail lights
white - ground
blue - electric brake feed
orange - trailer battery feed
black/light green - backup lights

Great thanks for the help. I'll probably tap into the towing harness. Its right there and easy to get to. The kit came with an inline fuse so I'm good to go there. The harness that came with it isn't very long so I'm not sure I can reach the tail lights. Thanks for the tip on bulb grease, does home depot have it? I will wrap the connection in electrical tape too, just to be safe.

Ok I tapped into the trailer tow backup lights, but it didn't work. Turns out I don't have a relay for the trailer tow back up lights. So I ended up pulling the taillight and tapping into the wire up there. They work great now. Thanks for the advice.

The relays should have come in the same package as your brake controller hookup plug. If not, the dealer would have them.
