question about display

I have a 99 f150 XL, I am changing the instument cluster out to put in the one that has the tach in it. does anyone know if the miles are in the pcm or in the cluster? Someone told me that they are in the pcm but not sure? The 99 and on had a ditatal odometer. does anyone know what will happen when I install it? thanks

It's in the cluster, no mileage in the PCM, only PATS key compare data. When you put the new cluster in you need to

1 Parameter reset on PCM (clear KAM)
2 Enter security access on the HEC
3 Erase keys in HEC
4 Wait 10 seconds, then cycle each of 2 keys for 3 seconds

Oh yea, you have to be at a dealsership when you swap the clusters.
