Fusible links - No start problem

I am trying to troubleshoot a No start condition. Couple of beginner questions to make sure I checking the wiring correctly.

1. How do you test the fusible links (fuel pump and eec)? do I have to remove all the tape a shrink wrap to see the actual wired connection or can I use a voltmeter without stripping apart the wire?

2. I am getting a resistance reading on the Fuel-Pump Relay when it is unlugged. I am Not getting a resistance reading on the EEC Relay. Would a no resistance reading indicate a bad relay?

janoss,

Testing fusible links is like testing any other fuse. You can test continuity (resistance) if it is removed or disconnected from the battery or you can test for battery voltage on each side if still installed.

Resistance should be zero ohms (or a very small value depending on your meter).

Or... voltage should be the same on each side referenced to ground.

Relay testing requires knowledge of the relay's pin assignments.
The coil pins should have some resistance between them. Difficult to guess but 50 -500 ohms is reasonable.

The contact pins will read near zero ohms for a normally closed configuration and infinite for a normally open configuration.

Coil resistance does not guarantee the relay is OK. Contacts may have fused, be stuck "open", or have excessive resistance such to prevent proper operation of the device(s) it controls.

Good Luck... XLT_D
