Question Running lights on trailer

I just bought a used 1998 F150 XLT with a 4.6
I tried to hook up my Boat trailer and the tail lights on the trailer don t work.So I tested power and I don t get any on the pin for my running lights.Does anyone think that where the trailer lights(on the truck) mesh in with the truck tail lights could have broken somehow. It hasn t been taken apart before and I dont want to take wires apart and make a mess.
I know this may sound confussing but if anyone knows what I m saying Please help.
Thank you from a new proud ford product.I love my new truck.

From: SE Wyoming, try and find me
check the fuse first, I bet your trailer plug doesnt match the Ford plug and the running light truck side plugeed into something else trailer side and blew a fuse.

Separate fuses for trailer wiring... happened to me when trailer running lights got crushed and shorted out. Truck lites still worked fine.

Hi Fell

I agree. Look for a blown fuse first.

Check fuses in main box..drivers side..underhood....Then..same area..

Look for a second smaller fuse box..check for blown fuses there.
(those fuses may be for trailer)

If all fuses good...then...gotta start running continuity cks..etc. Bad connections at wiring harness etc..

Good luck...OT

Talking Thank you all

Thank you everone. This web site is the greatest thing.I found a seperate fuse box under the hood and sure enough it was blown. So I replaced it and it WORKS,and it hasn t blown when I hooked the trailer lights up.
I love my new ford and I'm glad I traded in my Chevy for it
Thank you all again
