Everything flashing/ engine die

Everything flashing/ engine die
Ok, I need some help
Today I get in my truck and fire it up, it runs for about 3 seconds and then cuts out. All my dash and interior lights flash on and off
and I can hear a clicking sound under the hood (I think). So now if I turn the ignition to the on position the dash and interior lights flash and I hear the clicking. Sometimes the gauges do the full swing thing too.
Anyone have an idea of whats going on? It was foggy/damp today if thats any help.
I had my girlfriend check it a couple hours later and aparently it stays running but the idle jumps up and down. The dash lights still flash with the ignition in the on position.
